Summary:
He knew she was there. His red eyes gleamed showing the reflection of the full moon in the deep night sky. He knew she was watching him from afar and yet he said nothing. He knew she took every calculated step as he took a step, silently following his movements. He knew who she was, and yet he had never seen her in his life. So why is it that he knew?
Prologue:
My name is Daniel Haptson, and I am a vampire. I am fifteen and I live in Karington, Wisconsin. I live with my parents and two sisters. I am the youngest of the three children, and the youngest in the entire clan. I have dark brown hair that's fairly short, and clearly, I have red eyes considering I am a vampire. I am about six foot two and that's all I can really say about myself.
Now let me tell you something you might not believe. Vampires do not turn into dust in sunlight like everyone things. We just prefer the dark because our red eyes allow us to see things much clearer than tin the daylight. So if you ever meet someone with red eyes and glasses, well they are probably a vampire that is if you meet them during the day, otherwise you won’t see anyone with glasses.
Chapter One:
Recently, I’ve been having these strange feelings, as if someone were watching me, watching my every move, and it has been driving me to the brink of insanity. I can feel those eyes scoring into the back of my head, burning its way into my very mind, to the center of my brain. I would want to turn around and I would expect someone to be behind me, but whenever I turn around, I don’t see a single soul.
This has been happening for six months now, and every single night, I would go out for a walk and every time I would feel the same set of eyes on the back of my head. I’ve come to ignore the feeling, but I can’t help but wonder who it is that is watching me so intently. I know that this person is there and this person is moving just as I move, but I also have this feeling as if I know this person.
Tonight, I cam waling in the same route as I always walk on, except this time, I’m planning on heading back home a little earlier than usual, which is a two hour walk. I decide to stop halfway through my route and headed back. That was when I heard it, the rustle of leaves. I turned my head toward the bushes that rustles which was to the right of me.
The rustling stopped completely, and I stared intently on them hoping to catch a glimpse of this person. I squinted my eyes hoping to see anything that would give me a clue as to who this person was. Then I saw it. Deep within the dark green bushes, was a patch of golden brown hair. I saw that the hair was a little wavy and that this person was fairly small to be able to hide behind such as small bush.
I turned around, making it look as if I had seen nothing and shrugged off the noise to be a cat, or some small animal. I smirk as walk away, going back home where I am in need of finishing my damned homework. I sighed a little hanging my head as I went. “Oh well. It has to be done,” I sighed walking toward the house at the end of the street. And so that night I ended up going to bed at four in the morning waking up at six that morning. Oh well. It’s not like I need much sleep anyways.
When I woke up, I headed straight to the shower. I was in there for twenty minutes when I decided to get out the shower, dressed and did normal morning things. By seven, I was out of the door headed to my car parked on the driveway next to a silver 2007 Honda Civic. My car happened to be a steel blue Mitsubishi Eclipse, the newest of all the cars in my family since I was the last to drive; only getting my license a month ago when school started.
Fifteen minutes was all it took to get to school, and since school started at 7:30, I had ten minutes to waste. But the only thing I ever did, if I was early, was sit in the library doing any homework that I forgot the night before, before class started.
Ok, so let me tell you now that I’m pretty quiet and I get straight A’s (only because my parents want me to be like my sisters), so that’s why I’m always in the library. I don’t even do sports or clubs so there’s not really any point to do anything. Besides, people tend to steer away form me for some reason. Hmmm…now that I think about it, that’s probably why I’m so quiet; I never talk to anyone. I scoffed at the thought though. I don’t need friends and it’s not like people notice me or anything, so why bother. Ah, life, isn’t it a wonderful thing? It’s too bad my life is going to be wasted.
The bell rang, signaling the starts of class. I sat at the front desk of the room, facing the white board as my teacher walked in and various students piled into the classroom, chatting away as if there wasn’t a car in the world. Now, if only I weren’t the only one passing this class, then this school won’t be as stupid as a donkey’s ass, and I wouldn’t have to deal with idiots who don’t even know the basics of math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ok, I know that they might think that it’s too had to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, but would it hurt to try? I mean come on! It’s not like a nuclear bomb is going to be dropped on their brain! Not that I mind, but I would like to have some intelligent conversations with these nincompoops. Is it too much to ask? Of course it is. These idiots couldn’t even hold an intelligent conversation for two seconds.
Now, right now I know what you’re thinking. You are thinking why I’m not listening to my teacher when he is clearly trying to “teach” something important, that is supposedly going to get me through life. Well the truth is, I already know what he’s teaching. I’ve known since the fifth grade. Hmm...no wonder I pass all my tests!
Any who, getting to the point, I have the best grades in the entire school, and I am a junior. Can you tell that that was sarcasm? I’ve been getting the best grades in the entire school for six years, and that started in middle school.
Well, anyway, the whole day went on like that until four when school ended. As soon as the bell rang, I raced toward my car, not even stopping at my locker. As soon as I got home, I signed onto MSN Messenger. A few months ago, I met this guy online who seemed very interested in vampires. I started talking to him, and found some very interesting rumors about vampire attacks.
Now as far as I know, most vampires only attack animals, but when I heard that the victims were humans, I began to get curious, so I continued talking to this guy. He would always update me on vampire attacks and I would ask him all of these weird questions, like what did the bite look like, or did the victims turn into vampires? Then this guy would always answer,” I live in a small town in Wisconsin. There’s not much news here.” And he never questions me any further than that.
So as long as I’ve been talking to this guy, I found out that he knows some actual facts on vampires. Like how most vampires have red eyes, and how they feed on blood (DUH!). But today, as I was talking to this guy, he gave me a fact that surprised me the most, and that fact was that vampires live among humans every single day of their lives. Now, this really struck my curiosity. Whey does a human know that vampires live among human beings? And more importantly, how did he get this sort of information?
And so, I asked him. What surprised me was that he told me he got these facts off a site on the internet. He sent me the site and I checked it out.
OK I know that I’m saying I’m surprised a lot, but I really am! All the things that were listed about vampires were accurate!
