fighting currents

sitting on the rocks, back to where it started
tears in disbelief that it might be over
i can’t give up, i know, fighting with
the currents in my head while water’s
overflowing, trying to stay above you

i don’t want to sink down to love
or save this psychic connection
when i know i haven’t even tried
to make this work, i’m sorry that
i doubt this relationship & say
how we jinxed it from the start

putting pressure on each other
instead of taking it one day at a time
hopes for the future – our future
when we can’t fix the present,
