She smiled as she snuggled into his side, an almost wild look in her eyes as she twirled a strand of his hair. She’d always loved doing that but she’d never expected to be able to do it as much as she’d liked. She sighed contentedly and brushed a strand of hair out of his face, not really noticing the crimson her fingers left as they trailed across his cold, pale features.
“You’ll never be able to understand just how much I love you,” she told him, shifting to where her head rested on his left shoulder. She looked pensively at the knife still lodged in his heart and her smile widened. “But that’s okay. We’ve got forever now for me to try to show you anyway.”
Her words were slurring now, not to mention becoming hoarse from smoke inhalation so she stopped speaking. Instead, she stretched forward to kiss his neck before resuming her twirling of his hair.
Something that might have been sirens sounded in the distance but it was hard to tell over the crackle of the flames. It didn’t really mean anything to her though. She and her beloved would be gone soon. They’d go off together. Somewhere no one would judge them or judge their love.
“They just wouldn’t get it,” she whispered hazily. “Our love.” She sighed again. “It’s almost unreal how much I love you. I love so much. So…much…”
