Lunar Wild

Chapter One - Brawl

“Lily!” Kira exclaimed; she quickly put her hands on her hips and glared at young Lily across the deck. Her long, white tail wagged in an impatient manner and her white and grey ears lay flat on her head.

“Hmm?” Lily grumbled as she glanced over her shoulder, nonchalantly; delicious mango juices gently dribbled down her lips and chin as she snacked on the tasteful fruit. Her cream colored tail ever so gently flicked in the calm morning air, and her ears were softly perked, as she examined her food.

“You’re eating up all of the mangoes, we just picked the whole barrel yesterday,” Kira said softly as she stepped across the deck, she being barefoot.

It was a calm, blissful day on the Okinai sea; The waves were calm, the sky was as blue as ever, and large, white billowy clouds filled the horizon with their majestic shine and fluff from the late morning sun.

They sailed in their vessel across the gentle seas; stragglers like them couldn’t have asked for a better, sunshine day to kick back and relax. What pirates do best s at times like these.

“Your point is?” Lily giggled softly as she threw her finished mango pit over board and to the fishes, she instantly noticed a few dolphins surface and spew mist from their blow holes.

“My point is, that we can’t keep stopping on each and every single island we pass just to stay alive, cause you keep eating our food in a matter of a few hours…” Kira mumbled softly as she gently gripped the large sack of mangoes in her hands and began to drag them to a safe spot away from Lily, across the ship.

“Hey!” Lily giggled softly as she gently stumbled from the woven hammock she was laying in. Kira began to laugh and before Lily could do much, Kira swung the large sack over her shoulder and began to jog away from Lily.

Lily laughed and attempted to catch up, but the gentle morning sun was basically pleading Lily to crawl back to her comfy hammock, and enjoy the views and sounds of the ocean. Lily heaved a long sigh, turned on her heel, and headed for her hammock again.

“Okay okay, but you don’t see me getting mad at YOU when you eat up all the papaya,” Lily said as she plopped down in her woven haven.

“You don’t even like papaya!” Kira laughed across the deck. She shook her head and began to put her sack away, before something in the distance caught her attention.

Large thunderstorm clouds were headed in the two girls’ direction, and Kira only knew what would happen if they were caught in the middle of an out to sea storm.

Kira sighed softly and gazed around, instantly noticing an island a good few miles away. She smiled and gently began to untie the sails, revealing a few cream white sails from the ship they sailed on.

“What’re you doing?” Lily questioned as the large sails instantly shaded her from her gentle sunshine.

“There’s a bad storm coming, we should make shelter on that island until the storm blows over,” Kira said as she grunted a few times; she gently untied all three of the sails, and their small pirate ship set it’s course for land.

Lily frowned and peered over her shoulder, noticing the large, menacing clouds inch their way closer to the two.

“Hmm…” Lily mumbled softly before heaving a long sigh and relaxing again, “Maybe we can find some more mangoes.”

“LILY!” Kira hollered over the loud, roaring wind. The two didn’t make it to the island quick enough to avoid the storm, and the waves were brutal against Kira’s and Lily’s small get away ship.

Lily squinted through the harsh waves and mist the ocean so viciously beat against the shore. The two were attempting to tie up the ship for the night, so the two could find shelter deeper in the island.

“Wh-what?!” Lily hollered back to Kira, whom of which had gotten her side tied down.

“I-I think that’s good for the night!” Kira yelled as she stumbled over to Lily. She then gently grabbed Lily’s arm in attempt to drag her away from the ocean’s wrath.

Both Lily and Kira quickly began to stumble up the beach’s sand, which was violently and relentlessly being thrown around from the harsh summer monsoon winds. They quickly reached higher ground and stopped under a low hanging palm tree.

Lily panted and gazed out to the vicious ocean waves out before her. She gaped slightly, never seeing a storm so wicked; she knew nothing good could come from this. She leaned close to Kira for protection as the two teens huddled close together. The harsh wind making the palm trees above and around them thrash around in an angry chaotic dance.

“K-Kira, where do we go?” Lily questioned as her stomach instantly dropped at the thought of something bad happening. No food. No shelter. She instantly began to worry as he basically clinged to her best friend.

Kira glanced around before her eyes gently fell on a small cave not too far from where the girls were standing in the evil weather.

“O-over there, there’s a cave!” Kira hollered as she quickly began to drag Lily to the small alcove in a small clearing of the palm tree forest they were slowly being engulfed in.

Once the two reached it, Lily let out a loud sigh of relief and gazed back to where their ship was. It was being gently, yet ever so violently thrown around by the unyielding waves. Lily bit her bottom lip as the area around them seemed to calm somewhat from the threatening storm outside of the trees boundaries.

Lily gazed up gently, noting the storm was still as bad as ever; the trees continued to basically tackle each other against the harshest of sea wind storms. She frowned, hoping the storm would blow over soon. She hated seeing the weather of the only place she knows, the ocean, to be so violent. It made her feel unsafe, not secure at all… but she knew things would settle sooner or later.

“I’ll check to see if the cave is secure… You look around to see if any of these trees bear fruit of any kind,” Kira said calmly as she slowly disappeared into the shallow cave.

Lily gazed upwards again from her attentive stare on Kira. She instantly began to search the tree up above her for any sign of food or fruit, but sadly, there was none…

“Kira, I’m going to go search over there for food,” Lily called into the cave, “I’ll be right back,” she concluded before quickly pushing her way through some bushes.

She stepped out of the safe clearing she was in, only to be viciously greeted by a big gust of wind. She tumbled backwards a little before regaining her footing and heading towards a different patch of trees. She heaved a long, weary sigh as she began to impatiently thrust low hanging branches out of her way as they dangled before her, obstructing her way to where she was headed.

Before Lily could step further, she heard a faint sort of snarling noise. Lily’s furry, yet wet, ears instantly perked as she quickly gazed about, curious as to where the noise was coming from. Her eyes widened at the sight she saw down on the sandy shores of the beach.

A small pack of island wolves, seemingly picking on a larger animal of some sort. It seemed as if it were wounded, seeing as it laid somewhat helplessly on the soft sand on higher ground. Lily’s eyes instantly widened, knowing how difficult it could be to take on a full pack of island wolves and live through it, while wounded.

Lily instantly bursted through a small patch of forest; running fast, barefoot through the rough land, over twigs, leaves and all sorts of other harsh things to run on. She darted past low singing branches of sorts, and other things that were so viciously being tossed around.

The harsh wind began to basically splinter through her very being as she ran against it; she felt as if the cold, blistering wind was quickly becoming lethal, and with that, a twinge of fear quickly began to form in the pit of her heart, but she knew very well she needed to help another in danger.

Just as Lily thought it was too late, she bursted through the last batch of leafage before there came the islands’ beach. She skid down the sand for a second before feeling the biggest rush of adrenaline basically shoot through her veins. She ran until she felt she was basically flying, until she came towards the pack of about five or six island wolves. She took a leap and hoped for the best, praying that the herd would leave the poor defenseless creature alone.

Lily plowed straight into one of the larger wolves, that was in mid leap towards it’s prey as well. The two creatures collided and slammed to the sand, causing the whole herd of wolves to direct their attention towards the interruption. Lily.

The wolves instantly began to snarl; the howling wind spun and thrashed against all creatures on the beach at the moment, and Lily began to sweat and pant. She didn’t let her tired state take over her protective side, though. She knew her duty here, to save a life that was possibly trying to be free from the weather’s wrath.

Lily stood a little, in a weary stance, but she shook her head gently, causing her ears to lay completely flat on her head before she could feel the beast within her take over. Her pupils immediately dialated, slit, and turned the deeper green then original.

She hissed and snarled; not something she would normally do when raged, but she felt as if this situation called for such viciousness. Her ears lay flat, and her dagger like teeth instantly stared all six island wolves in the face. Her tail grew rigid as she slowly crept towards the now cowering pack of island wolves.

The leader of the pack didn’t seem too thrilled however, that this stranger was interrupting their midnight meal. He instantly snarled before lunging forward, towards Lily. She snarled as well, throwing both her arms and hands forward so to lunge right into the wolf who had basically tossed himself at her.

She quickly grabbed him by the scruff and fur on the back of his neck and hide, and immediately threw him; her now razor like fingernails had dug into his skin, causing some blood to drip down his back. The wolf howled and snarled in pain, before he whimpered, and the pack slowly, one by one, began to leave.

Lily panted heavily and kept her eyes fixed out on the slowly disappearing wolf pack. She kept a steady stance in front of the creature she had saved, her ears pressed flat against her now soaking wet hair in an angered manner. She furrowed her eyebrows, never feeling so much rage for a simple herd of island

wolves. She quickly brushed off her angered side, now quickly changing It to that of nurturing and caring. She immediately whirled around and stared down at what was in front of her, laying somewhat helpless and wounded on the ground.

Lily’s heart instantly leaped as to what was in front of her came into you. It was a boy; his golden ears and tail her soaked, dirtied and bloodied slightly. His collared shirt was torn, as well as his khaki knee high shorts, and his somewhat ruffled blonde hair was soaked and slightly bloodied as well.

Lily bit her bottom lip, knowing a head injury only led to death or serious disabilities, out here with no doctors or anyone around. She quickly gazed about her surroundings, making sure she was in the clear, before she softly knelt next to the unconscious boy before her.

Lily frowned as she touched his cold, stiff face. His mouth hung open slightly and his lip was bloodied and bruised. She instantly wondered, what would’ve become of this boy if she didn’t show up in time. She shut her eyes tight, hating the thought of seeing a completely massacred and murdered, bloody body on the beach the next morning

Lily quickly shook the thought from her head as she leaned closer to him. She pressed her fingers to his neck, searching for a pulse, or any sign of life. Thankfully, he was alive…But just barely.
