I Am Nature’s Daughter

I lie in the tall grass, spread-eagled and completely relaxed.

I listen to the breeze blowing the windmills gently.

The grass sways, cradling me against its waving body and tickling my arms.

I smile in contentment, and revel in the sun, beating down on my eyelids.

I squint through barely shut eyes to glimmer at my eyelashes,

and smile to see that the sun has turned them into rainbows.

For a moment, I feel beautiful.

Beautiful— with rainbows for lashes and the grass tickling my arms in teasing.

I breathe deep.

It’s not hard.

The windmills feel like they are shoving the fresh air

down me,

through me,

lifting me.

I am the wind…

just a peaceful rustling, not a tornado.
