CORRECTED

You’d never believe what I found in one of my computer files today. This. I must have written it sometime donkeys years ago, because the grammar was terrible. I cleaned it up as best as I could, but I didn’t want to change any of it.

It was Saturday 23rd September, one day until my fifteenth birthday, I had everything I wanted, great friends, great grades and an amazing family. Everything, that is, except a boyfriend, I have never had a boyfriend, I didn’t mind, I was used to it and I was happy as I was, sure, I fancied guys, but none of them fancied me back.

I was thinking of what my party would be like, everyone I knew was coming, girls, guys, everyone. Then the phone rang,

“Hello?” I asked into the receiver.

“Hi Caleigh, it’s Brett,” Brett was my best friend, he had always been there for me, and I had always been there for him.

“Oh, hi Brett! What’s up?” I replied.

“Nothing much, I just rang about tomorrow...” he said.

“Right! What do you want to know?” I said cheerfully, he sounded embarrassed about something,

“Well... just to say... can’t wait!”.

Oh. I thought, hoping he was going to say something else, I stayed quiet for a few seconds,

“So, yeh, umm, see ya tomorrow Cai!” Brett rushed, the phone went dead.

I stared at the phone for a couple of seconds, expecting him to still be on the other end, but he wasn’t. I put the receiver down. There was something strange and mysterious about Brett, I loved him - he didn’t know...but I did.

It was my birthday party, and Brett was the first to arrive, he gave me a bunch of flowers and said happy birthday, I said thankyou and gave him a hug, then everyone else came pouring in, one after the other, the party was amazing and at the end, Brett stayed behind to help me clear up. When we had finished, we dropped onto the sofa, exhausted. “Caleigh...” Brett whispered,

“Yes, Brett?” I replied.

“Caleigh, I love you...” he breathed.

I looked at him, just to confirm it, his eyes told me he did.

“I’ve always loved you, Cai.” I was gob smacked, all I could do was grin, he laughed and kissed me.

It was the best birthday present I have ever had, I now have everything that I wanted.

Oh God, 'Brett' - I hate that name with a firery passion. It's just so...jock-like...shudder
