can you feel the wind
when you open the window?

do you feel
warmth on your neck
when you reread our letters

and forget
that you were
supposed to forget?

do you avoid
the center of the woods?

it's like a beesnest
swarming with shadows of
what used to be us,

green nests of leaves
and silence that stretches on
for miles and miles.

the sun rotated
in the center of the milky way,
right before our eyes.

can you imagine that?

a star right in the center
of the cloudless blue sky.

well,
can you?

i bet you've forgotten
how incredible that is.

i bet you've forgotten
how to waltz, i bet you've forgotten
the drug store on the corner.

we used to rub vaseline
on our skin and sit in the sun
breathing in the asphalt and sugar
stuck in our lungs, strawberries
and coke with rum.

i bet the wind
doesn't blow there
any more.

i bet the wind has forgotten you exist.
