Author’s Note: - I’ve remade the last three chapters. Hope you like them.
The young woman began picking at her finger nails. Half of it was nerves, the other half was curious over Jack. She didn’t like priding into other people’s business, especially if one were likely to rip your arm off if so much as raise an eyebrow. She tried forgetting about it, and Jack obviously wouldn’t want to mention it. As soon as she made it back to the dining room, she found Jack leaning over to Adam and handing him over a note.
Adam unopened the note, read through it and then getting up from his chair. He looked around the room for Stella, and when he found her, he waved his hand for her to follow him. Stella nodded and followed the two of them out of the dining room. She wanted to say something, but kept her mouth shut. Adam stopped and tapped Jack on the shoulder. Jack faced him.
“What?”
Adam turned to Stella and pointed at her dress, then moving his hand up and down. Jack instantly knew what he meant by his gestures.
“You show Stella the way; I’ve got something more important to do.” He continued and went about his own business. Adam shrugged.
“Thank goodness he’s gone.” She told herself. Stella looked at the plague doctor and smiled. “So, where to?” Adam instantly took her by the hand and pulled her into another corridor on the left.
Jack staggered back into his office, gritting his teeth and clenching onto the throbbing pain of his leg. The door was already open and he limped into it as fast as he could. Jack went to get a small, black box from under his desk. He pulled it up with one hand and slammed it down on the wooden table. Time was running short and the pain was growing stronger.
His hand began to shake and Jack cursed under his breath when he found it difficult to lift the lid of the box. Once he succeeded, the insulin was already prepared for his leg.
He hated having to inject himself with such a needle, but it needed to be done. Jack sat himself down on the chair and starred at the large needle for a moment. So many thoughts ran through is head, thinking to himself that there must be another way round this. But nothing, not even the Empress’s magic could heal such a wound. Jack sighed and unzipped the side of his trousers, as he did so; he bit the bottom of his lip lightly.
Jack looked at the green liquid inside the tube, dreading that this task must be done at least every two days. He took a deep breath, held it in, and then sticking the needle deep into the side of his leg. The needle was not the main problem, but the burning liquid burning his muscles and bones. With his caned hand, he slammed the silver crow-headed knob down as hard as he could over the desk; causing it to crack a little.
He wanted to scream his lungs out, spray the walls with his words of agony. No word escaped his bloody lips. He gritted and grinded his teeth, his eyes closed tight, until the pain had come to an ease. Slowly, he reopened his cold eyes and breathed out again, his lungs gasping for fresh air and he was more than welcome to accept it.
Sweat ran from his face and throat; and, like a madman, he began to giggle insanely to himself.
Adam waited for Stella to return with her new seat of clothes. He stood outside the other room, fiddling with an unusual gadget he found within the pocket of his doctoring trench coat. Stella opened the door, surprising Adam as she did so.
Like the rest of the Organization, she wore leather made trench coat that reached down pass her ankles. Around the collar and cuffs were decorated with large grey feathers, black latex boots that began to cause her feet some grief. A pair of leather skin tight trousers, and a leather corset that covered her bust.
Stella pulled a pair of red cyber goggles out from the pocket of her coat and placed them on her forehead. Adam, however, did nothing but stare at her leather and latex clad body. His eyes widened and Stella did nothing but laugh. If only he had the power to say what he wanted to say, but the expression in his eyes was enough.
“I take it that’s it’s to your approval?” She modelled before him with a cheeky smirk. Adam nodded almost instantly. But he managed to remember something. Adam stepped into the changing room for a brief moment and came back with a Plague Doctor mouth and nose mask. He handed the protection over to her.
“Thank you.” Stella accepted the mask. Again, Adam couldn’t stop staring at, as he thought, her beautiful body.
Jack came back, wearing something that was similar to Stella, only more masculine. He rolled his eyes at the mute man and tapped his shoulders.
“Stop starring at her breasts and come on. I don’t want to be the one cleaning up your drool.” Jack said and limped down the corridor.
Adam’s mouth hung and he blushed wildly. Stella shook her head at Jack and followed him out. Adam hung his head low in embarrassment.
They kept their conversation at a minimum, and Stella was definitely not planning on starting anything with that son of a bitch. Jack had taken the elevator down into the underground car park. Even though there was enough room for Stella, he made the two of them take the stairs.
“Can that man not be anymore ignorant?” Stella scolded. Adam just shrugged. “Sorry, Adam.” She folded her arms as they walked together down the stone steps.
Jack waited in the underground car park. The cathedral supplied the Organization with the best update to date equipment needed, along with various weapons and spell books. Tara had also warned that, even though that their magic is powerful, it will not stay with them for long. Jack had to wait for another two hours to recollect his abilities to summon the most horrifying creatures imaginable to defeat the Plague Demons.
The doctor had chosen their car, the Black Firehawk. Already, the car was supplied with weaponry loaded at the back. Adam suspected that he was going to drive, and his suspicion was true when Jack pulled the car key out from his pocket and tossing it at him. Adam caught it with one hand and opened the doors with the button on the key.
Jack sat in the front along with Adam; Stella crushed her legs up against her chest, since the chairs were so far back.
“Adam,” Stella said. “Do you mind?”
Adam bowed his head in apology and pulled the chair forward a bit more. Stella felt relief come back to her legs. The physician started up the car’s engine, reversed it and drove on out of the car park.
