Though time has passed us by,

And our words have faded into time,

The memories remain vivid in my mind,

Rewinding and replaying, over and over.

-

To see you cold like ice,

I wonder if I have made the right decision.

And every time your eyes fail to meet mine,

Another tear drops into the lake of my heart.

-

You won’t ever know of my love for you,

For I have denied it, to you, and to myself.

The realization that things won’t ever be the same comes

like rushing water to me, and the current pulls me under.

-

But it was for the best, I tell myself,

For at that moment, it was a wise decision to make.

Yet remains the longing in my heart,

And the sorrow in my soul.

-

Lost, a thing so dear to me.

And the revelation comes too late.

But there are years ahead of us,

In which I can hopefully make amends.

-

I can see the light in the distance,

And it gives me hope for the future:

A future filled with love and opportunity.

I hope to meet you there.
