poetic license

i try to avoid pretentiousness
in my own writing, using
the simple vocabulary
of everyday life rather
than elaborate phrases like,
“the infallible nature of human
bodies drenched in alcoholic brine,”
but then i think about the poetry
world and realize i should be
difficult, condescending, force
people to say, “what the fuck?”
because we’re all assholes, anyway.
