I try to write the words
I'm dying to say.
But I can't count high enough
to tell you the number of miles
I'd walk to you
if you needed me.
I search my mind to find a rhyme
with the feeling
of your arms around me,
holding me,
warming me.
And try as I might,
I cannot find a color in a crayon box
to create your light blue eyes,
with the subtle green freckles:
(they brighten when you wear
that shirt I love)
and the gold sparkles
that light up when you smile at me.
I try to write the words
you deserve to hear.
But no words do justice to the feelings
I have.
Nothing can describe
how your smile flips my stomach over
or how the road to you
is always longer\
than the road away.
Instead,
I cover my notebook
with too many "I love you"s,\
but I promise there's true meaning
in each one.
I love you.
