A Widow’s Wedding

Forgotten by the man she loved,

Abandoned by the man she had trusted,

Left alone in the shadows of the rooms they had once both filled,

With the lives they had both once shared.

Unable to move on to just another man,

Unwilling to forget about the one, who had already forgotten her,

She dies inside for a love that had felt so right,

With a man that had promised her his life,

On their wedding day,

As the piano played,

And the candles were lit,

Dress in white to the floor,

Taken in the arms of a man who was no more…

The man she knew had died,

Or might as well because he had been a lie,

Up on the alter they had stood,

So many years ago,

As she gave herself to a forgetful man.

It wasn’t so much the things he had said or did,

It was the things he didn’t do,

Or didn’t say,

That ended up killing her on her wedding day.

Now dressed in black to the floor,

Loving a man who was now no more,

Still very much alive,

He might as well have died,

For the awful memories he left,

Running through her head.
