The voices whispered to me of the greatest American duo of all time

The voices whispered to me of the greatest American duo of all time. The genius lyricist, Paul Simon, and the great voice, Arthur (Art) Garfunkel. They bid me listen to the Old Friends collection. Comprised of three albums pertaining some of their best, well-known and little-known, Old Friends is a must-have for all Simon and Garfunkel fans.

Disc One holds some favorites from the acoustic/electric guitar versions of The Sound of Silence to the longing of Homeward Bound. It also holds the poetry inspired Richard Cory (written by Edwin Arlington Robinson). It contains as well the great Wednesday Morning 3 A.M. and its counterpart Somewhere They Can’t Find Me.

Disc Two starts with the psychological Patterns. The fourth track is traditional Scarborough Fair/Canticle. My favorite through is the song most people don’t know Paul Simon wrote: Red Rubber Ball. As if to prove my point about his genius, the song Blessed contains the line “My words trickle down from a wound which I have intention to heal.”

Disc Three begins with the famous song from The Graduate: Mrs. Robinson, going straight into the song from which the collection got its name: Old Friends/Bookends. The best song is on this album, A Most Peculiar Man. It contains more of the most famous, the autobiographical The Boxer, the emotional Bridge Over Troubled Water, and the childhood memories of My Little Town.

Old Friends of a collection of some of the greatest music to come along. Simon and Garfunkel are masters of the music world, bringing out album after brilliant album, including their premiere album as Simon and Garfunkel, Wednesday Morning 3 A.M. They are certainly experts at the game of “Keep the Customer Satisfied.”
