WARNING: THIS IS A SEQUEL TO IT'LL HAPPEN SOON ENOUGH IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THAT, THEN YOU'RE GOING TO BE VERY CONFUSED.
Well, not really, but it's a good idea to read the first story to get a feel of the characters. You know?
A/N: Okay, now that we got that out of the way... Here's the FIRST chapter of the sequel you lovely readers all kindly asked for. I hope this is to your liking. It took me a few days to figure out how to get the first chapter started off. ) Oh and don't worry it will get more suspenseful than it is in this chapter.
So here goes...
Once Again
I can’t believe I’ve only had a few months of peace before these stupid nightmares / premonitions came back. Few months ago, I had nightmares of my own “death”. My best friend, Shelly’s (now ex-) boyfriend was my supposèd killer. It ended up coming true, but he didn’t kill me. I’m still alive. He ended up going to Juvenile hall until he turned eighteen, and then he’s going to be in State Prison for five years with three years of probation.
How did I survive? Simon, my angel, saved me. He’s my boyfriend and has been quite supportive through my trial and what-not. And he also understands about my “precognitions”. After the trial he went out and looked up all about dreams that predict the future, and told me all about it. He’s such a sweet.
So back to now. I’ve been getting nightmares again, but this time it’s not about my life. It’s about this little kid named, Johnny. According to the news he was kidnapped in his neighborhood, and can not be found. But I’m dreaming about where he is...
My breathing is really slow as I crouch behind a wooden crate. It seems like a carnival maze, but it’s not. I’m inside a building of some sort. A warehouse maybe? I’m not really sure. I try not to make a sound...
“Johnny... come here my boy. I promise I won’t hurt you!” I wrap my arms around my legs, silently praying to myself that he won’t find me. “You have to eat sometime kid.” The old man retorts. I feel my stomach growl as if on cue.
I look around some more, trying to find any clue to where I am. Finally I catch something. GLASS DOCTORS, the logo is printed on one of the crates. This must be a warehouse for glass windows and doors. I strain my eyes to see the address, but it’s not use. The old man grabs me from behind. I scream and kick, but he’s much stronger.
“You need to eat my boy.” He says as he sets me down on the floor again and starts stuffing the food down my throat. I try to throw it up, but it just gets forced farther down my throat. The only noise that ends up coming out is my soft whimper. “Come on son, if you listen to what I tell you to do, then you can go outside.”
I can’t speak, my throat is throbbing from all the food stuffed down it. I feel my eyes start to close. Did he drug my food? “Sleep now boy. I’ll take good care of you...” His body comes closer as my eyelids slowly close...
My eyelids fly open and I jump around in my bed, to find I’m actually me, not the little boy. Oh the horror this guy’s putting him through! I need to speak to the police immediately. But what if they don’t take me seriously? I guess I should talk this over with Simon. My first class won’t due, because the people in my class are total dweebs and won’t stop nagging me about my so-called premonitions. Any small hint of something about my dreams and they’re all over me. It’s so annoying. I guess I’ll just have to wait until lunch.
I get myself ready for school, throwing on a nice polo t-shirt with a cami underneath matching it with a nice pair of blue jeans. I hear Simon’s mustang pull up in front of my house. Danny likes the idea of not having to take me to school in the morning. It gives him more time to sleep I guess. I grab my bag and bolt out the door, locking it behind me before I meet Simon in his car.
“Morning sunshine.” He smiles at me as I pull my hair back in to a ponytail. I smile back.
“Morning!” I croak. I guess the after effects of my dreams are coming back too.
“You seem... awake today.” I laugh at this comment.
“Yeah, lack of sleep I guess. It makes you ‘more’ awake.” He shakes his head and starts heading towards school. “How was your night... with your mom and her ‘mystery date’.” Simon grimaces.
“Ugh, he was a total faker. I could just tell he hated kids, especially teenagers. But my mom was so blinded by his charm that she couldn’t see pass the façade.” I scrunch my nose.
“That stinks.” He nods in agreement.
“Totally.” We make it to school in record time. Sometimes I don’t realize how fast Simon actually drives. “So, anything new?”
“Yeah, I’ll tell you later.” I smile at him reassuringly.
“Can you give me a hint?” He says with his puppy dog eyes. I laugh at him.
“Fine, fine, I know what the old man looks like. And I think I might now the location, but not really sure. I’ll tell you what I’m thinking about doing at lunch.” I say as Shelly comes running towards the car. To tell you the truth, I don’t want Shelly to know I’m having nightmares again. It doesn’t concern her or me or anyone else close to us, so she really doesn’t need to know. Simon knows because he was there when I first had it. But Shelly, she doesn’t need to know.
“Hey girly!” She gives me a huge hug as soon as I get out of the car. “First day back since vacation!”
“Yeah. How was Florida? Sunny?”
“Always sunny in Florida.” I laugh with Shelly. Simon comes up besides me and wraps an arm around my waist. “So, you guys just chilled all vacation?”
“Yeah, pretty much. Simon took me to Fenway to see the opener.” I reply smiling up at Simon. Shelly squeals.
“Oh, lucky duck! I’ve always wanted to see them “hot sox” play.” I roll my eyes as I watch her dream about meeting the Red Sox players. Simon chuckles as we all start walking towards the school.
The first bell rings and we make our way to the first class. Social Studies with Miss Gregory. Fun. She pairs us off in to partners, I’m with one of the psychic-dweebs in my class, and Simon is with one of the girls. I can’t help but feel a little jealous, but he gives me a reassuring smile that I am who he loves. I smile back as the dweeb stares at me. Actually his name is Josh. Josh isn’t a bad guy, but he’s such an annoying character. Ever since people found out about my premonitions he wouldn’t stop nagging me about them. Ugh, it’s just plain annoying.
The class couldn’t have gone by any slower. After Josh and I arrange what we’re going to do for our project the bell rings. Simon grabs my bag and follows Shelly and me to English. I really wish he could be in all of my classes. My English teacher lightened up after the trial. Apparently all I had to do was explain why I was falling asleep in her class. Psh, right. She just felt bad that I almost died in her class and wanted to make it up to my parents.
Lunch finally arrives. Shelly has to stay in class to catch up on some of the work she missed because she left three days before vacation started. So Simon and I sit alone at lunch.
“Felicity, what are you going to do?” Simon asks me.
“Well I have to go to the police like I said.” I point out.
Simon nods, and then looks away. I continue to play around with my food. “What are you going to tell them?”
I look up and get caught in his beautiful eyes. “Uh...” I blink a few times, “That I think I know who the kidnapper is.”
He smiles sweetly. “Do you know what he looks like?”
“Yeah.” I think back to my nightmare, the old man smirking at me. I shudder. The old man has glasses, and his face is round and pudgy. His eyes are... light brown? He also has some wrinkles on his forehead...
“Do you think you could draw him out?” Simon breaks through my thought. I smile knowing where he’s going.
“That’s a fantastic idea! I can draw him out, hand it to in to the police and voila! No more nightmares!” I feel like a ton of bricks have come off my shoulders. Then I can finish off the rest of my junior year stress-free. Oh, but what about the boy? The police still don’t know where he is. The bricks slowly start crashing down.
“Ugh.” Simon stares at me, “The location. They need a location.”
My head falls in to my open palms. I know what it looks like from the inside, but not from the out. Hell, I don’t even know where it is, at all. This can not be happening again!
“You can’t put all the burden on yourself, hun.” He reaches across the table and takes my hand in to his. “I think if you give them the details they’ll find out where the boy is. Johnny will be found.”
I nod slowly. It sounds reasonable. But I know it’s going to be easier said, than done. They won’t understand me. I’m a freak in their eyes, a freak that just happens to know way too much information about a particular case.
“We’ll go after school? Does that give you enough time to draw him out?”
“Yup, plenty.” The bell rings signaling the end of lunch. Shelly finds me and takes me away from my security blanket. “See you later!” I shout. I think he says ‘ditto’ but I’m not really sure. Shelly looks at me and shakes her head.
“You look dead.” She states the obvious.
“Thanks.” I hiss out. I walk around her and continue down the hall. I can hear her light footsteps behind me.
“Don’t be like that, Fee.” She whines. “I know what’s going on again.”
I stop in my tracks. Darn, I thought I am hiding it so well. “Shelly, please, I don’t want anyone else to know.”
“Does Simon know?”
“Yes.” Her face tenses up.
“I see how it is.” She starts to walk pass me and I grab her arm.
“It’s only because he woke me out of the first one! I had to tell someone and he was there. I swear to God Shelly! I would’ve told you, but I just want it to be on the DL. I need to talk to the police after school.”
“What?” I drag her to the side of the hall.
“You know that Hawkins’ kid that went missing?” She nods. “That’s who’s in my nightmares. I might know the location of where he is, and I may know who kidnapped him.” She looks at me all confused-like.
“How?”
“I don’t know, one minute Simon and I were watching A Walk To Remember, the next I’m dreaming about a kid named Johnny who’s lost in a... warehouse? And an old man is going after him!”
“Wow. I thought you could only dream about your own death.”
“Me too. But we’re not sure he’s dead yet.” The second bell rings, telling us that we’re already late to class. “So, are you still mad at me?”
“Of course not!” Shelly smiles big. “I’d never stay mad at my only sister.” We both laugh as we walk in to my science class. My teacher glares at us but continues on with the lesson. I don’t pay attention. I take out my sketch book and start drawing the old man.
Hopefully, they believe me.
Hopefully, I’m not going to get locked up in the mental hospital.
Hopefully, we find Johnny.
