subtlety is not your strong suit
yes, you know who you are
just as I know who I am
I won’t change that for anyone

you’ll have to give me credit
for honesty, at least
I won’t speak in fancy metaphors
and figures of speech—they would
drown out my meaning
I’ll hand it to you straight
princess, I’ll pull no punches

we are all at fault
and I don’t know
if attempting to fix this
is worth my time

you don’t give me a reason
to turn my attention to you
I come off harsh and blunt
here, but reality paints me
apathetic to you, honey
I can’t find it in me to love you
if you don’t give me a reason to

you can go ahead and call me
Horatio pining for Ophelia
the truth of the matter is
I resent golden-boy Hamlet
and all his kind with their
casual touches and loving
words that draw her in

don’t mistake me for love-sick
I’m just sick of love
and I’m avoiding close contact
with any couple that has it

you walked out of my life
and lost my confidence
it’s a fact of life:
I don’t need you anymore

and sweetheart, don’t lie
you don’t need me either
and I fear mending this bridge
will tear you from what you love most
it’s not my problem—it’s up to you
whichever way the wind blows
I really couldn’t care less, babe

I’ll leave you to your dramatics
if you leave me to myself

just remember my phone still works
