Author's Note: Ahem. Ahem. I wrote this little piece for a school project back when I was a little girl. I know some parts of it are illogical, but I hope you wouldn't mind and/or notice.

I must admit, I become mentally disabled when it comes to grammar and spelling. So please, forgive me.

Reviews will be greatly appreciated. Greatly.

On with the story...

PROLOGUE

Woodward’s Secret

St. Oren’s Orphanage could be seen standing upon a hill overlooking vast, endless plains somewhere in Canterbury, England. Its aged bricks are peeking from scrubs of hedgerows and heathers. Its tall iron gates, although already rusted, are still rising as majestically as ever. A small garden filled with blooming violets and wisterias gracefully surrounded its red-brick walls.

This orphanage was founded about a hundred years ago by a man named Bartholomeus Woodward. He was a renowned professor who dreamt of providing shelter for all the helpless orphans scattered around the countryside. Woodward evidently achieved his goal, for in just three short years St. Oren’s flourished, taking in as much as two hundred homeless children under its wing.

Bartholomeus died a satisfied man. But rumor has it, that before he passed away, he left something behind. It was said that somewhere within St. Oren’s walls lies a treasure of great value. Of course no one was sure if there was a treasure. However, a man who goes by the name of Arnaud Tournier set out at once upon hearing about the fortune. He bought St. Oren’s Orphanage and immediately hired a team of men to search the building for any signs of gold, silver or gems. Years had passed and no treasure was found. Tournier passed the orphanage down to his descendants, who tried as hard to find this promising prize. However, up until now, there was not a single hint that the treasure exists. Maybe it was just a rumor after all. Or is it?
