A world of harm

A world of harm

Its four months since she last fully extended her arm.

The wounds as fresh as the day all this began.

Every night she goes to bed, a tear in her eye.

Every night she gets up again, checks the door, turns on the light.

Every night back to bed, moves the pillow and gets the remote.

Hidden inside the battery compartment, her new best friend, the blade.

Arm outstretched as far as she can, fist clenched tightly, eyes closed shut.

As she draws the blade across her arm.

She opens her eyes, theres not enough blood.

She does it again.

And again. And again. And again. And again…

Until she finally finds the peace and calm she was looking for.

A towel stems the bleeding, focusing her mind.

A sigh of relief as she switches off the light.

Back to bed as still as she can.

The warm burn of pain threatening to split her in two.

Now she is ready to face a new night of nightmares.
