I know you care for me

You look at me and you see a future

You see me and imagine me as angelic

A glowing aura that draws you

Captivates you

You make it a priority to talk to me

Every chance you get

To dance with me

Every time I will allow it

I know you care for me

You’re loyal and devoted

You call me beautiful

And remind me of it every day

You go out of your way to be there

Always for me

Always thinking of me

You honor me with your patience

You honor me by waiting

Yes, I know you care for me

That’s why I’m so scared

Because you don’t know

God you don’t know

That it’s hard for me to care

Whenever you touch my hand

Whenever your lips brush mine

Whenever you hold me close

Hold me tight

I have to stop and breathe

Praying you won’t find out

About my lack of feeling

My absence of caring

Not responding

Even though I want to

But something’s always there

Always stopping me from opening

From letting you in

It’s not a defense

I don’t fear Love

Love is not the fear that stops me

From Responding

to your Caring

Love is not the fear that freezes me

When you touch me

When you hold me

When you show that you care

No

The fear is the knowledge that I can’t Respond

And that you’ll find out

Find out that it’s hard for me to care

So, I’ll go on fearing

Never letting you in

Letting you slowly understand

(Mistakenly)

That I don’t care

And I’ll be your angel no more

My aura will grow cold

And your future will burn to ash

Because you think I don’t care

… because you don’t know why I’m not Responding.
