Fantasies

I dream of you and sand and golden sun,
Of glowing days and frothing waves that lap
At our ankles, where side by side we run,
Leaving only footprints to fill the gap
Of space behind. I dream of holding you,
In the early morn where the air is brisk,
Where, under that trailing sunrise’s view,
You’re striking. Loving you is worth the risk,
I know, and so I dream well past the hurt
And the loneliness. I relive your touch,
The softness of your fingers my comfort,
The promises your voice whispered my crutch.
At least I’ll have dreams of you to hold dear
When in my reality you’re ne’er there.
