people come from everywhere
to see the stardust in your hair,
to try to catch your midnight smile
and make you theirs for a little while.

but they can’t touch the inner light
that makes your beauty deep and bright,
and holds their gaze for a breath too long
keeping them stunned until you’re gone.

‘cause you won’t let yourself be caught,
since that would give them what they sought,
and tether them to your pearly eyes,
and make them wish they weren’t alive.

but that’s your secret, baby girl,
that’s the way you save the world,
by keeping dreams alive and well
and far away from the lies you tell.
