Words really can’t describe how much I hate lunch here at my ever so fabulous school. The first thing is that the food looks like some kind of animal barfed it up then they decided to serve it to us poor unfortunate souls. It tastes like they did too. Another big pet peeve is the middle schoolers. They eat lunch right before we do and are the biggest slobs DeWitt Upper and Middle campus has ever seen.
I walk over to my usual table with my tray of three times re-heated pizza only to find that its covered in crumbs and an assortment of shit. Lynn isn’t there, as usual. She’s probably flirting, boy-crazed freak that she is. Heather and Ryan are sitting there, being disgustingly cute as they always are. I glance around, looking for everyone else. I sit down just as Marie and Miharu sit down.
“Guess what lizzie?” Miharu asks me as she gets in my personal bubble.
“What?”
“I’m in your space.”
“Haru get out of Liz’s personal space!” Nicole says as she sits down. “Does anyone have a dollar I can borrow? My sister didn’t give me the money.” That’s Nicky, always broke.
“Kyle! Give me back my drink!” Heather exclaims as Maries future boo steals her propel.
“No way. Mine now.” He says as he takes a big swing. I snake my arm around Marie, reach into Kyle’s lunch and grab his carrots.
“I have a hostage!” I exclaim loudly.
“Now that’s not very nice.” Says Akinbi as he walks up with his nasty lunch tray.
“He stole Heather’s Propel.” Ryan says, “So she took a hostage.”
I toss the carrots across the table to Nell and Kyle makes a grab for them. We continue playing keep away with his carrots until Lynn comes over sulking.
The table suddenly goes extremely quiet. Whenever Lynn comes over here shes in a bad mood and we all take the brunt of her anger. Its annoying beyond the meaning of the word annoying. Many brave souls have lost their sanity dealing with a moody PMS-ing Lynn. I simply punch her when she gets like this. Gets the point across much better.
“You guys are so boring! You never talk or anything!” We all suppress a giggle, but I can’t help it. One escapes any way.
“What is so funny, Liz?” She says to me sharply.
“Nothing girlie.”
“Fine.” She says with a huff. “I’m having a really crappy day.”
“No really?” I say under my breath to Marie. Lynn turns and tries to pull an Anne-Glare on me, but since I’m so used to the Anne version, the Lynn version has next to no effect.
“You know that you and Miharu are the reason I’m like this!”
“What did I do?” Miharu exclaims, “Remember that time you beat me up?” Lynn turns her knock-off Anne-Glare onto Miharu full force.
“Calm down Lynn. Geez.” Nell tells her.
“You all suck. I’m out of here.”
We all sigh in relief when she leaves, and the tense atmosphere dissipates instantly. I snatch one of Miharu’s goldfish and toss it up in the air, catching it in my mouth.
“Stop showing off.” Nicole says, also stealing one of Miharu’s goldfish. She tries to catch the goldfish in her mouth but instead it hits her nose. I glance next to me at Marie. She’s sitting there attempting to smoke a pretzel like a cigarette.
“Marie you chain smoker!” Miharu yells.
“You shouldn’t do that, it promotes bad habits.” Nell says cautiously.
“The real things much better, chickie.” I nudge her.
“You would know.” Nicole says laughing.
A couple of people with cardboard boxes come over to the table interrupting the conversation.
“Go Green! Save the planet and recycle!” Dutifully we all toss our cans in the box, even though all this global warming stuff is probably a scam by the government agencies to steal our money and lively hood.
“Fuck.” I curse.
“LIZ! Watch your language.” Nell chides.
“Whats up?” Marie asks worried.
“Oh nothing, just forgot to do the bio.”
“You needed to curse to tell us that?” Nell asks.
“Our little Lizzie always needs to cuss.” Nicole tells her.
“Fuck you Nicky.”
“Back at ya bitch.” Just at that moment the vice-principal in all his fat, balding glory comes up to us.
“Time to go back to class.” He tells us, and we all head to class with out comment.
