Chapter 1: Enter the Glasses
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Wow, that kid sure is a nerd. I mean, I’ve got the dark brown hair that sticks up in all directions. My backpack seems to be three times my size because of all the remedial classes I’m taking. And, as of yesterday, I’ve got the goofiest glasses anyone has ever seen.
Kasei Tadayuki sighed as he looked at his reflection in the train’s window. He was on his way to school and, for once, he was on time. He had actually made it on the train before his best friend, Shinji. The train doors were closing and just before they shut, a grey uniform-clad arm shot its way through.
“Yo, Tadayuki!” Shinji greeted his best friend. Honda Shinji was everything that Tadayuki was not. He had perfect light brown hair that had a just-got-out-of-bed-after-some-seriously-hot-sex look. He had beautiful hazel eyes and a face that any modeling agency would die for. He also had the highest scores of anyone in their class. How he was best friends with Tadayuki never ceased to amaze the shorter, nerdy boy.
“Morning, Shinji,” Tadayuki sighed. It was then that his handsome friend noticed the new addition to his best friend’s face.
“Wow, nice specs,” Shinji grinned. “What optometrist gave you those?” Shinji pointed to Tadayuki’s face. The darker haired boy sighed and tried to cover his face. The glasses weren’t the ugliest thing in the world. But if said ugliest thing had come out of a cave and saw the glasses, it would probably run away.
“Mmhmmfrhmm,” Tadayuki mumbled and looked away from his taller friend. Shinji chuckled and leaned forward.
“You’re going to have to speak up, Kasei,” Shinji laughed again at how red his best friend’s face was.
“I said my dad made them for me,” Tadayuki blurted and then blushed, if possible, even harder. In their four years of friendship, Honda Shinji had only been to Tadayuki’s house once. The rest of the times they went to his place because it was closer to school. But, in the one time that Shinji had been to the Kasei residence, he was quickly shown the door before he even had a chance to meet Dr. Kasei.
“Ah, the mad scientist made another invention,” Shinji laughed and Tadayuki turned away. There had always been a rumor that Tadayuki’s father was a mad scientist. He never came to school events. He worked out of the basement. And, since Tadayuki’s mother died, he had never remarried or went on dates. He was always held up in the basement of the house where weird noises and lights would randomly appear. Plus, Tadayuki was always coming to school with some new gadget that his father had invented. “So, do they do anything?”
“Well, actually,” Tadayuki adjusted the glasses on his face, “after we had our physical exams at school last week, the nurse told me that I needed glasses so I could see better,” he explained. “Of course, my dad couldn’t just let me go to the eye doctor like a normal kid.”
“Ah,” Shinji closed his eyes and nodded slowly. “So he made you special glasses.” Tadayuki nodded slowly. “So, what other cool stuff did he install?” Shinji asked excitedly. “Oh, I bet you can fly or something, right?” He made to grab for the glasses, but Tadayuki pulled away, nearly knocking over the businessman behind him on the crowded morning train.
“Watch it, Shinji,” Tadayuki warmed, albeit weakly.
“Aww, c’mon, Tad,” Shinji stuck his lower lip out. “I just want to give them a try,” he paused, hazel eyes lighting up, “ooh, I bet they can see through walls, right? How about girls’ clothing?” Tadayuki looked incredulously at his best friend. “Just let me see ‘em!”
“No!” Tadayuki tried to pull away, but ended up tripped and falling over, taking Shinji to the ground with him. Shinji landed on his best friend’s chest with a thud, but he had been victorious. He now had the glasses in his hand.
“See, now that wasn’t so bad,” Shinji began, but then froze. His eyes widened as he stared down at his best friend below him.
“What?” Tadayuki squeaked. He voice sounded higher than normal. “Did something bad happen?” Suddenly a memory from earlier than morning hit Tadayuki like a ton of bricks.
“Now remember, Yuki-chan, these glasses are for you, so don’t go sharing,” Dr. Kasei smiled at his son. “And I want you to come home right after school so I can see if they work.”
Shinji was still staring and Tadayuki was beginning to feel uncomfortable. Plus, Shinji was taller and slightly heavier than he was, so having his full weight crushing him was not a good thing.
“Miss, are you alright?” a voice came from above them. Shinji quickly scrambled to get up. The businessman who had been concerned for Tadayuki’s safety glared at Shinji. He then turned kind eyes on the fallen teen. “You have to watch out for teenage boys, they’re nothing, but trouble.” He held his hand out and Tadayuki took it. “This is my stop, but,” he glared at Shinji, “be careful.”
“What was that about?” Tadayuki turned to Shinji. “Ah, why does my voice sound so…?” Shinji was still staring wide-eyed at his best friend. “What’s wrong with you?” Shinji simply pointed to the nearest window and Tadayuki turned to look at his reflection. A bloodcurdling scream was heard throughout the train. “I’m a girl, a girl,” he turned to Shinji and pointed to the two sizeable lumps underneath his uniform top, “a girl!”
“Calm down,” Shinji grabbed a hold of Tadayuki’s shoulders and then blushed, letting them go. “Uh, we, um, just need to,” he looked around. “Don’t worry, we’ll figure something out.”
“What am I going to do?” Tadayuki sunk to his knees. His grey boys’ uniform seemed about three sizes too big now and his dark brown hair, which usually stuck out in all directions, was long and smooth and reached the floor the same time his butt did. “How am I going to show my face at school now?” he looked up at Shinji with tears beginning to form in his eyes.
“So cute…” Shinji couldn’t help it. It wasn’t like he meant to think about his best friend that way. But Tadayuki made such a cute girl. And no good man could just stand there while a cute girl cried.
“Okay, let’s get off at the next stop, okay?” Shinji offered and Tadayuki nodded. They both stepped off the train and realized that they had already made it to their stop. Waraku High School loomed over them. “It’s alright, we’ll just get you inside and-” but Shinji was cut off.
“Ah, Honda-san,” it was Principal Daishi. “Looks like you’re just on time, we’re supposed to be having a new student today and,” Daishi stopped when he spotted Tadayuki. “Oh, this must be her,” the principal smiled. “I was hoping you’d show her around the school, but you’ve already found her,” he smiled.
“Yes, she’s staying with my family, actually,” Shinji smiled, turning his charm on. “This is Kasei Yuki,” he introduced his best friend to the principal he had already known for years.
“Ah, Kasei-san, a pleasure to meet you,” Principal Daishi smiled, “you know, we have another Kasei at the school, are you related?” Tadayuki shook his head quickly, long dark hair spinning around him as he did. “Well, either way, we should get you a girls’ uniform, I imagine that Honda-san had to lend you one, right?” Tadayuki nodded. “Well, I’m sure Honda knows the way the to the school store,” he bowed and left the two alone.
“That was close,” Shinji sighed, “at least he didn’t recognize you.” He turned to smile at Tadayuki, but stopped when he saw that he was crying again. “Ah, Yuki-chan, don’t cry.”
“Don’t call me that,” Tadayuki blubbered, “I’m not a girl,” he rubbed his eyes furiously.
“Okay, okay, let’s just get you a uniform before anyone else stares at the girl wearing boys’ clothing,” Shinji grabbed Tadayuki’s hand and dragged him to the school store. He grabbed a skirt and top that looked about Yuki’s size and walked around the corner to wear he had left the teen. “Here ya go, why don’t you go into the bathroom and change?” Shinji shoved the clothing at his best friend.
“Thank you, Shinji,” Tadayuki nodded meekly and walked toward the bathroom.
“Not that one!” Shinji grabbed the end of Tadayuki’s hair and pulled slightly. Tadayuki turned to question him, but he interrupted, “You have to go into the girls’ bathroom.”
“Th-the, the, the,” Tadayuki was frozen. “G-g-g-g-,” he couldn’t move. Shinji had to shake him to get him to pay attention.
“Geez, if you’re a girl, you’ve got to use the girls’ bathroom,” Shinji sighed, “Oh,” he grabbed the glasses from his uniform pocket, “I almost forgot, you’ll probably need these to see which bathroom is which anyway,” he smiled and put the glasses on Yuki’s petite face. Suddenly, Shinji’s eyes widened again.
“Just because I’m a girl, it doesn’t mean that the glasses will look good,” Tadayuki growled in a deep voice. A deep voice? “Wait,” Tadayuki looked down. His uniform fit. He didn’t have any lumps on his chest. And, he felt his head; his hair was back to its usual unruly self. “I’m me again!” Tadayuki jumped for joy and then hugged Shinji to him.
“Hey, wait,” Shinji pushed Tadayuki back. “What just happened?”
“Don’t you see, now that I have the glasses on, I’m me again,” Tadayuki grinned. “That must be why my dad didn’t want me to let anyone else see them,” he chuckled. Shinji reached forward and pulled the glasses off. Tadayuki let out a girly scream. “Why did you do that?”
“Sorry Yuki-chan,” Shinji smiled, “you just make such a cute girl, and” he paused, “now that we’re able to change you back whenever, I think I’m going to leave you like this for awhile.”
“Shinji…” the background disappeared from behind the cute, girly Tadayuki. “YOU MEANIE!!”
To be continued?
Well, what did you think? I hope you liked it. I just wanted to write something fun. I also wanted to take a little writing break from VoTH II.
So, should I continue this? I mean, I have bully names up there, but no bullies appeared in this chapter. Should I let those names go to waste…probably…
Plus, I want to develop a love story with Shinji and Tadayuki. Tee hee…oh well.
Thanks for reading!
