Sky Holland is an orphan, abandoned near the Holland Tunnel in New York City. The strange thing is that the fourteen year old boy remembers nothing about his past, not even what cars are or how electricity works. All he has is his name, Sky, and a mysterious Pearl in his pocket.

Day by day, Sky stands near the tunnel, waving to people in hopes of being rescued. One day, a man stops for him. The man’s name is Michael Sykes, a former Seargent in the Vietnam War. Michael is divorced with no children. Inspired by Sky’s plight, he adopts Sky for his own and sends Sky to school where Sky is hated and bullied.

At the same time, FBI agent Roy Whitestone is investigating a mysterious murder in Atlantic City. On his way back, he is asked to solve the murder or risk losing his job. During the autopsy, Roy discovers a mysterious 5th base of DNA in the murdered man’s corpse. Roy immediately informs his boss about his discovery, but when his boss finally looks at the autopsy, the 5th base is nowhere to be found. Roy loses his job, but decides to continue investigating on his own. Roy’s research leads him to Sky’s town, where local doctors claim to have discovered the same phenomena in a fourteen year old boy. Having ties with one of the teachers in Sky’s school, Roy Whitestone decides to pursue the case himself with a couple of close friends from the FBI and CIA.

Slowly but surely, the fates of Chosen Ones Sky and Star, Whitestone, Sykes, an evil organization known as “Endscape,” and an omnipotent deity by the name of Oblivion are intertwined. Friends are made, traitors are executed, and Sky learns that the only way to discover his past is to defeat a band of evil creatures known as the Dark Apostles.
