The ocean. Man’s most reliable ally.
How could anyone destroy such a beauty?
It assisted with the mote for my first sandcastle, protecting the princess from the man-eating crabs.
It played a game of tag with me, and although it was the tagger, it didn’t stay that way for long.
It brought me pirate’s treasure of their maps, nets, and wooden swords.
In the middle of it laid a secret island where we could talk all night, and no one would find us.
It gave me the biggest fish and lobster to bring home to mother.
It gently sailed my boat that I carved and hammered together for a present for my dad.
It gave my girl and I a beautiful reflection of the setting sun.
It still looked after me when I kissed my bride on the shore.
It carried all my men’s ships hastily across the seven seas to trade what it so generously gave to them.
But one day it got mad from all the poison the evil men were shoving down its throat.
It cast them from its presence with fog and foam.
It was never gentle again after that day. They day when men turned its back on it.
It gave back every gift I gave to it.
It lost every boat I put in its hands.
But one day the ocean stood still as if it knew what catastrophe occurred.
It gently carried my first boat I made with my hands away to be lost in it with my father lying down inside.
Even in death no one could ruin its beauty.
