Eye of the Storm

Chapter One: A New Beginning

It had been Centuries since the Citizens of Mission City had heard of the Sisters of the Storm. In facts, many had forgotten there great -yet evil- legacy. It was a modern world, and no one was interested in ‘made up’ fairy tails of female warriors of long ago. Humans had lost most of there imagination a long time ago. No longer were things different and ancient interesting. They were to busy with there video games, and computers.

But the thing was; they weren’t made up. Oh how foolish it was for the Mission City civilians to deny there existence. And they will for too long.

Foot steps clanked across the cracked and busted sidewalk. A figure walked on, ignoring the occasional glance from a passer-buyer, in the dimly lit down town. No, she was to busy to confront the humans of there rudeness, for she was in a hurry. The moon glittered in the starless sky, almost as if at watch.

The figure stopped, and crossed the street, not paying attention to the cars, and the certain one that honked at her, and gave a rude gesture about just walking across the street without waiting for the signal. She scoffed at such ignorance. Did they not know who she was? No of course not, she thought, but they will soon enough. She and her sister had been planning this for the last eight centuries, and she sure wasn’t going to give it all up on one rude remark, though if not, she would have killed him with a swipe of her claws. But instead she just crossed, and continued on her walk.

As she continued on, the lights became dimmer, and people became fewer. And soon enough, she was completely alone. She was glad for the silence, for the loudness of the city hurt her sensitive ears. She glared at the mutt that barked as she passed, and her icy stare was enough to make him whimper, and back up in fear. Yes, that’s right, she though, know who your master is.

She smirked evilly, exposing her pure white fangs, as they glistened over her lips. She stopped when she saw headlights in the distance, and continued on her solo walk down the road. The car seemed to be going in her direction, and she waited for it to pass. She really didn’t have time for this! She was supposed to be meeting Taima now! She would probably worry, and make a fuss when she got back. She sighed. Her little sister could be to dependant on her at times, and that worried her. What if she was taken? How could Taima take care of herself? She couldn’t even imagine when she died. The poor kid would probably commit suicide.

She shuddered. No. This matter had to be resolved, and she would work on it with her. Without really concentrating on it, she turned the corner, and subconsciously noticed that the car did too. She was too lost in thought to actually get her senses working to be alert. Taima. Her little sister. She sighed. Maybe not that little. 13 millennia old, 13 in human she guessed, if she had done the math right. While she herself was 16 millennia, and if she got the math right again, she was 16.

She stopped dead in her tracks. Her inner rant stopped, as she noted the headlights reflecting off her shades. The car had seemed to stop as well. Damn it! She thought, how could she have been so stupid to not notice she was being followed? Taking this from a smarter approach, she did not turn around. She kept on walking, and prepared to run into an ally, when she had found the right one. Being around so long had given her the knowledge of all the short cuts you could find in this half assed city.

Who ever was driving seemed to have noticed that there prey now knew that they were there. The car stopped, and the headlights faded as the engine stopped from a dull roar, into absolute silence. She kept walking, not daring to look back, as she didn’t hear any car doors open. That was a relief, she thought, and was glad to see she was almost to the next corner of Maple St. and Main Way.

Seeing the ally draw near, the girl dashed in, with a single leap. She ran. She ran like hell, and didn’t look back. She knew what would happen if she did. She would want to stay and fight, but with Taima waiting, she couldn’t. She splashed throw the puddle, splashing water up her faded jeans, and drenching her tennis shoes. Even her black vest and purple sweater got a bit wet.

Pushing her way past the dumpster, she had heard a car start almost immediately after she had pounced. Running by the fire escape, she neared the chain fence. With another mighty bound, she graved the fence, and positioned her feet, and scaled the wire fence, taking a second to look behind. Headlights peered down the pitch black ally, and she squinted with the unwanted light, as she was illuminated.

Noticing her stop, she quickly began her climb again, and winced when her hand struck the top, that was barb wire. Damn these humans! She thought bitterly, and gripped it once more, and swung herself over, landing on her feet with a thud. She broke out into a run as soon as rubber reached the pavement, and she was back on a street, that was poorly lit, and was gratefully vacant.

Looking back, to her surprise the headlights had faded once more, and she was alone. Now grateful from that experience, she leaned against a damp brick building with a sigh, as she tilted her head back, letting her black beanie cap get wet as well. Taking a deep breathe, she used her leg to push herself back up, and cross the abandoned road, and into the park.

A ring of trees surrounded the park, as well as some that scattered inside said ring. Neat concrete paths lined a big pattern through out the park. Benches placed randomly at the paths, she made her way to the center, towards the large oak tree that stood, towering over all who dare pass. Several aligns of seats had been placed around the thick trunk, and that was were a figure sat, rocking back in forth.

The figure seemed young, wearing baggy grey shorts, and a navy blue tee. Her sweatshirt was that color of the sky, on a cloudless day, and her sandals were as black as night itself. The girls grey hair had been pulled back into a French braid, making her aqua highlights stand out. Her blue-ish grey eyes turned up as the other girls walked closer.

“Levina!” And with a spring, Taima was up, and bounded towards her sister. Levina braced herself for the sudden charge, as Taima wrapped her arms around her, and gave her tight hug. The younger girl sniffled.

”Where have you been!?” She cried out, stepping back slightly, as tears dared to fall from her large eyes. Levina sighed, and brought her sister into a motherly hug. She really needed to teach Taima how to be on her own, without freaking, she thought Levina cooed kind words to her, until she had settled down, and they both walked over to a bench, to sit in the pitch black park.

“I was followed,” The older one began, and Taima gasped, and looked as though she was about to interrupt when Levina fixed her with a stare, and the younger one closed her mouth, and awaited for her older sister to continue. Levina nodded, when she knew she wasn’t going to talk.

“But do not worry; I was able to lose them down Maple and Main.” Taima let out a sigh, that was physically noticeable, and Levina suppressed a chuckle at the little girls’ antics. In all honesty, she worried too much. She had been like this ever since there parents had died.

Levina shuddered at the thought, as she pushed the memories aside, and thanked the gods that Taima was too little to remember the events of that day. Taima looked up at her sister, to see a blank expression as she starred off into space. Taima sighed. She had that look again.

“Stop thinking about it.” She said, pocking Levina in the arm, to earn a jerk from the older girl. Purple eyes meet blue as they fixed each other in a glare. Taima was the first to break it, as she leaned back and suppressed a yawn. Sleepily, she rubbed her eyes, and leaned closer to Levina.

Motherly instincts kicking in again, Levina used her forced friction to heat up the girl, and placed an arm around Taima’s shoulder, letting the younger girl drape across her lap. She shifted slightly before settling down, and drifting into a blissful slumber. Levina watched, and stroked Taima’s hair, leaning back with a sigh. She wished she could sleep so soundly, but she had to watch. She always had to watch.

“Sleep tight, my little Thunder.” She cooed, before shifting, and falling into a light slumber as well. Though not as deep as Taima’s, she was still awake enough that the slightest noise would awaken her. Taima had wonderful dreams that night, as Levina had terrible nightmares of what was to come.

The car drifted around another corner trying to find out where that short cut the girl had taken ended up at, and so far he was at a miss. With a sigh, he stopped at pulled over, and let the engines’ hum come to a stop.

A man sat in the drivers’ seat, wearing a dark suit, and had bright red hair with vagrant blue eyes. Sighing, he reached over for the radio that was attached inside his car, and prepared to make the same transmission for the third time this week.

Agent Conrad to base. I lost the Lightning sister down an ally, and was unable to pinpoint the exit. I shall tail some more before returning for the night.” He said in a Baritone voice over the transmission and placed the small black receiver in its halter, and turned the keys to his black solstice. Looking behind, he reversed, and shifted gears once again, as he pulled put and drove into the night in search of the Storm sisters.
