To watch as the sun slowly sets over the horizon,

To watch as the light gradually fades into darkness,

To watch as the night transforms blue to orange to lavender to black;

In my soul, a painful, heartbroken resignation develops and grows.

-

Never have I dreaded the darkness so much,

Never have I clung to the light so fiercely,

Never have I watched a light’s departure with such reluctance.

I turn from the window, but my eyes remain fixed on the dwindling light.

-

I will miss the constant warmth of the sunshine,

I will miss the tender compassion of the sun’s light,

I will miss the gentle embrace of the sun’s rays.

I force my eyes away from the light with fervent determination.

-

But the tears still fall, and my heart overflows with uncontainable sorrow.
