He hid in his castle after the battle with the trolls, hiding the scars and the monster he had become. He hadn’t thought he would become this lonely with the company of his step-sister and her family. But even now, baby Selene was afraid of his scars that covered his face where a small cast-iron bomb had exploded next to his face, slicing his skin as if it were warm butter. His scars were deep and ugly. He was foolish to think he could fight in battle against the troll siblings, who constantly were fighting each other as well as the rest of the kingdoms. He wore a mask around his own castle because he couldn’t bear the stares of the servants and maids. He eventually asked the closest thing to family that he had to leave but one day he had come up with an idea. He sent out a request for the most beautiful, of age girls in his entire kingdom to be sent to his castle. Everyone thought the King had truly gone off the deep end, but even then the order was carried out. The king hid in the shadows as he watched the carriages full of young maidens come into the palace gates.
