Is this right?
Chapter 2
This music was pounding in my ears and I felt a rush of adrenaline flow through my body. I always get this feel as if nothing else mattered. The only thing that could make me feel this way was music. The sound, the beat, the thought of myself singing it. It just makes me relaxed and happy. If I could I would totally marry music; like that song by Skye Sweetnam. It’s called Music is my Boyfriend. I don’t really have that song in my personal favorites but it’s true all the way. MUSIC IS MY BOYFRIEND. Or so I innocently think.
Back to the song, that I, am going sing. It’s called Miracle by Paramore. It is a totally awesomeness great song by the way. But than again almost all the songs I like are totally awesome so yeah.
“I’ve gone for to long living like I’m not alive…” I started to sing. But get this, right after I started to sing all the electricity went off. Right as I was going to sing. Damn! Life is out to get me this also applies to my mother.
“Damn it all to the hell that has frozen over!!” I heard Vince screech. “This is really getting on my nerves.”
“Shut it Vince,” I think that was James. “Hey girl, are you still there?”
I don’t know why I’m not answering. It was pitch black so I couldn’t even see my hand in front of my face. I wanted to answer but I couldn’t bring myself to. These guys…I don’t know…Is this right?
“Alice?” I heard Janey say. “Alice? Where are you?”
“I’m…” I stopped.
“Alice?” I heard James say. “Is that your name?”
“Yeah it’s her name” Janey said somewhere in front of me. “Alice Compton. Her number is 837-3244.”
Yeah Janey just give them my address so they can rape me. Actually I don’t even know my address since I’m moving. God is good! I can’t do this I have so much stuff that I don’t even have any time for a band. I’m an idiot!
Good, my eyes are adjusting to the dark. I can get the hell out of here. I started walking but for some dumb reason I forget that, I was on a freaking stage! The next thing I know I flying through the air and than wham! I hit the floor.
“Dude, Alice!” James said. “You’re awesome! It’s up to you if you want to be in our band.”
“Um…” I stopped myself. I can’t answer if I don’t want them to find me. I carefully got up shook. That was a pretty bad fall; they probably thought I jumped off instead, at least I hope that’s what they thought. I walked towards the small bit of light coming from the exit sign.
Unfortunately Vince saw my silhouette and yelled, “Dude she’s trying to leave!”
But I was already by the door so I pushed it open and light flood in from the outside. For a moment I stood there to get adjusted to the light so I wouldn’t break my neck from tripping out a dog I didn’t see. As soon as I heard footsteps I launched myself forward and raced do the street. Thank the holy mother of Jesus Christ for joining the track team! I ran a mailbox and turned the street corner. I slow to a stop to catch my breath.
“Alice?” I heard a yelled. I think it was Janey.
“Alice?” It was a man.
I glanced around and saw a store, it was a pawn shop. Janey knows I would never go in there but this is one exception. I ran into the shop and hid behind a shelf of books. The woman looked at me and then out the window.
“My ex-boyfriend is chasing after me, I need somewhere to hide.” I said breathlessly.
The woman nodded and continued to do whatever she was doing. Although she did sneak a glances at me a few times. About fifteen minutes later, James came running into the store, breathing heavy.
“Excuse me miss,” he said calmly. “I’m looking for a young girl about 5’4”, blond hair with blue highlights, and green eyes. Have you seen her?”
The woman’s gaze almost traveled my way but she stopped looked at James and said, “Sorry sir. I haven’t seen anyone like that. If she comes in here would you like me to tell her anything?”
“Ah…” James thought for a second. “Yeah, could you tell her that James Dewitt is looking for her? And that her best friend Janey Barton is looking for her too.”
“I’ll try and remember that.” The lady smiled as James walked out the door. “You can come out now young lady.”
I stood up from where I was ducking and walked over to the counter. “Thank you so much.”
“Wasn’t he a little too old for you?” the woman said sternly.
“What?” I said innocently. “He’s 17 and I’m 16. He’s only a year older than me.” Honestly I had no clue how old he was, but it’s not my problem. I’m never going to see him again anyways.
“Oh, well…” she said suspiciously. “I’m sorry. But please don’t hide in my store again. I don’t like lying to other much.”
“Oh, that won’t be a problem.” I smiled and waved as I walked out the door.
I walked down the street cautiously. I’m so fricking paranoid, especially since the sun is going down. Everywhere I go I feel eyes on me or someone following me. It’s giving me the goose bumps. By the time I got home I ran up to the door, whipped out my key, and slammed the door behind me.
“Mom?” I called out. “Are you home?”
She was probably out with Mark again. Hopefully she stays at his house tonight. I quietly walked up the stairs to put my stuff in my room. After putting my things down I made my way over to my mom’s room. I pushed open the door and searched the room. No sign of mothers. I was home alone…again.
By now it was dark outside so I turned on some lights. Excuse me for being a big chicken, but I hate the dark. I don’t mind it but I prefer to not be around it. As I reached the entrance hallway the phone rang which made me jump and hide in the coat closet. It continued to ring so I left the safety of my closet and answered it.
“Hello?” I asked.
“ALICE?” It was Janey’s voice. “ALICE! Where did you go? Me, James, Jason, Vince, and Danny are searching everywhere for you.”
“ok,” I huffed. “First, you just killed my ear. Don’t do it again. Second, you called my house. That must mean I’m at home. And third,…”
I stopped talking. A loud bang came from up stairs. “Janey please get here as fast as you can!”
“I’m already on my way,” she said.
“Please hurry,” I choked out. “I think someone’s in my house.”
“Alice,” she growled. “Get out of the Damn house…. Alice... Alice, do you hear me… Damn it Alice! Just listen to me for once.”
I could hear her voice as I made my way up the stairs. Another crash sounded. I now knew where it was coming from…it was my room.
