People are fascinated by the thought of the end of the world. Revelations, 2012, Armageddon, the Apocalypse, etc etc. But could we really be causing the world to come crashing down around us in our lifetime? Could the way we be living really be causing global warming?
We’ve all heard the hype, and the hysteria. We’ve all seen the statistics and the predictions. But what’s the truth? Could this all just be one more propaganda lie made for us to swallow obediently?
I don’t believe in man-made global warming. I’m putting that out there right now. But, I know many of you do. I want to get one thing straight right now- I am all for going green. I have nothing against solar power, or energy conservation, or compost piles, or clean energy. Nothing at all. In fact, I’m for most of those. Notice I say most. Some of these so-called “clean energies” could be more hazardous than what we use already. Take florescent lights. They’re in every one of our classrooms. They may even be in your home. Do you all remember when mercury thermometers were banned because kids got sick- and even died- because of them? Well, guess what. If a florescent light breaks, mercury is released into the air. This has already made several people sick, and killed a little boy. Saves energy, and could kill you. Now, there’s a bright idea.
So, I think to prove or disprove global warming, we need to ask a couple of questions:
Is there such thing as global warming?
What causes it, if there is such a thing?
Even if there isn’t, shouldn’t we still be working to help the planet?
It looks like everyone has their opinion. Now, as you know, most scientists believe in global warming. Or do they? Recently, it has become known that scientists who don’t believe in global warming, and who say something about it, will have their funding pulled, or may even be fired! Renowned hurricane forecaster, Dr. William Gray, is quoted saying about Al Gore "He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about". Gray is known as America’s most reliable hurricane forecaster. Other scientists who also disbelieve claims of global warming include Timothy F. Ball, former Professor of Geography at the University of Winnipeg, Robert M. Carter, geologist, Vincent R. Gray, coal chemist, climate consultant, and founder of the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition.
Many scientists also disbelieve that mankind is the cause of global warming. Khabibullo Abdusamatov, mathematician and astronomer at Pulkovskaya Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences has said: "Global warming results not from the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but from an unusually high level of solar radiation and a lengthy - almost throughout the last century - growth in its intensity...Ascribing 'greenhouse' effect properties to the Earth's atmosphere is not scientifically substantiated...Heated greenhouse gases, which become lighter as a result of expansion, ascend to the atmosphere only to give the absorbed heat away." Others include Sallie Baliunas, astronomer, Reid Bryson, emeritus professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, George V. Chilingar, Professor of Civil and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Southern California, Ian Clark, hydrogeologist, professor, Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Ottawa, William M. Gray, Professor of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University, William Kininmonth a meteorologist and former Australian delegate to the World Meteorological Organization Commission for Climatology, Henrik Svensmark of the Danish National Space Center, and Jan Veizer, environmental geochemist, are just a few of those scientists.
“I would like to say we're at a point where global warming is impossible to deny. Let's just say that global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers, though one denies the past and the other denies the present and future.”
This is what Ellen Goodman, a journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist said about those who disagree with her on Global Warming. Sorry Ellen, but global warming is far from being impossible to deny, and those of us who do are no Neo-Nazis!
Let’s look at one of the most common claims- that mankind’s CO2 output- carbon dioxide, the stuff that we emit whenever we breathe out- is causing the global temperature to go up. Graphs shows CO2 levels and temperatures from the Antarctic over the last 20,000-50,000 years. There is very little to no correlation between the temperature and CO2 content. Some years, both went up, some years both went down, and some years one went up and one went down.
Another graph shows CO2 and temperature from 90,000 to 144,000 years ago. Once again, both fluctuate. Some years, there was a higher temperature than CO2, and some years there was higher CO2 than temperature. Again, no correlation. And if we want to lower CO2 output, we should all stop breathing. That’ll solve the problem
The bodily functions of undersea worms create more CO2 in a year than humans have in all of history.
Hurricanes are said to be caused by rising global temperatures. However, the doomsday hurricanes of 2006 global warming alarmists were predicting and hoping for never happened. In fact it was a relatively slow year. 2007 was also predicted to be a busy year for hurricanes. If you predict it every year you have to eventually be right. "Records" for hurricanes will always be broken because we have only kept "records" for about 100 years. And finally, on the subject of hurricanes, I bring you to a National Geographic article. It said, in summary, that some previous, widely publicized studies have linked global warming to stronger hurricanes. Previous simulations had found that as global atmospheric temperatures rise, sea surface temperatures rise as well. And because warm ocean waters fuel hurricanes, that temperature rise was predicted to increase hurricanes. However, the risen temperature would also increase wind shear. An increase in wind shear could counteract the effect of rising sea surface temperatures and actually inhibit hurricane formation.
And what about the poor little polar bears? The ones we saw floundering around in the water in Al Gore’s propaganda movie An Inconvenient Truth. Well, Mr. Gore, I have an inconvenient truth for you- in the Sermitsiaq’s (a town in Greenland) newspaper, they cited the recent growing of the ice shelves to be cutting off the polar bear’s access to food, and so they attacked people instead. That’s right- the furry little coca-cola polar bears eat people. In An Inconvenient Truth Al Gore says the polar bear need more ice to survive... Now we have a lot of ice, but the polar bear is starving and eats the people instead. Doomed? The polar bear population today is around 25,000. And it’s growing. Their birthrate has doubled in the last 5 years- they really are dying out, eh? The photo of polar bears on a melting iceberg- so iconic of global warming- is a sham. It was taken in the middle of summer, three years ago. For those of you who don’t know, that’s the hot season. It always has been. Always will be, global warming or no global warming.
Now, lets compare what people are doing about global warming by looking at two houses owned by politicians. The first is a 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guesthouse all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over 2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time I checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South- Nashville, Tennessee, to be exact. And now for house number two. It was designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25 of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000-gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape. Now, who owns these houses? The second is owned by President Bush. The first is owned by Mr. Al Gore. An inconvenient truth, indeed.
All of you know how high gas prices are getting. At this time I’ve seen 3.41 for regular- by the time you see this movie, it may be up to 4. Well, with the “carbon tax” some global warming activists are trying to push through to become a law, it could be 8 a gallon. It says that the more pollution something produces, the more something should be taxed. At 8 a gallon, that tax’ll do the job- no one will be able to afford to drive anymore!
So, I say, even if Global Warming is just another hoax, even if all this hysteria is for naught, shouldn’t we still work to make this planet better for ourselves and our children? We shouldn’t need a tax, or threats of the end of the world to make us go green. We should have respect for this planet God gave us. Because, didn’t it say in Genesis:
"The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden as its gardener, to tend, protect, and care for it”
God gave Adam and Eve dominion in the earth (Gen. 1:28). This means that the human race is to be in charge of the stewardship of the earth and to nurture it, not dominate and exploit it for selfish motives. So, my opinion on global warming is: who care? I mean, really. We should be taking care of our home, not destroying it. Imagine buying a house, and finding it trashed. Wouldn’t you have wanted the previous occupants to have taken better care of it? Well, we are the previous occupants, and our children will be the purchasers. We need to leave the earth clean, so others can enjoy a hike through the living woods, a run through the clean, crisp morning air, and a swim in a non-polluted lake. And that is what really matters- caring for our home. Why doesn’t matter. Only that we do the right thing, and make the world a better place.
