Only in America
4.23.08

Only in America doth freedom ring like clanging bells
do all fly with dove-white wings
up to skies as blue as liberty
and the good lady, with her head held high,
lights a torch of fiery bravery above us
to remind us that we're home

only in America are wars an act of selfishness
by corrupt pigs in the name of freedom for all!
do people die at Justice's hands
just because of whom they worship
or the color of their skin
(oh, sure, they say it's not -- but this is also
where lies and denials are the truths we swallow)

only in America doth exist the greatest paradox
do drink and drugs flow like milk and honey
bone juts through skin
starving when there's so much to eat
(and that's what we call beautiful)
it's the hatred, the fierce anger, the brutal discrimination
that reminds us that we're home

Author's note: Doesn't it make you proud to live in such a country?
Dedicated to Faith Adeline -- you know why. ;-)
