Prologue

“Come on, Sam.” said Gwen as she walked out the building with a large sign in front of it – New York University - along with her friend. “I mean, you’re the last girl I’ve ever met who ever dated her own private teacher!”

“Anything wrong, Gwen?” Sam looked up at her talkative friend as she chuckled.

“Err...well...I’m not saying it’s wrong, it’s just, I hardly believe it.”

“Then who do you expect to become my date?” Sam examined her friend’s expression. Gwen was always full of questions. Sam never knew why. Maybe it’s just because Gwen was easy to be curious. She was always in thirst of gossip and rumors. In this case, she always wanted to know why Sam could end up with a person who she never expected to be an elite girl’s boyfriend.

“Lyle Sanders?” Gwen raised her eyebrows.

Suddenly Sam burst into laughter. Lyle Sanders? she thought again. That Manhattan Playboy? Sam elbowed her friend. Gwen stopped her steps but Sam continued walking.

Gwen said from behind her. “But you said...”

“Yeah, but that’s just sooo over, Gwen, OK?” Sam turned around and looked meaningfully at her friend. She hoped Gwen would understand.

But Gwen only shrugged. “Well, whatever, you’re right.” she said, smiling then continued walking next to Sam. “Lyle is nothing you can compare to your hottie private teacher.”

“Knock it off.” Sam felt like she was being teased. Again, she elbowed her friend, hoping that Gwen would shut her mouth.

Nothing wrong with what Gwen had said to her actually, but somehow Sam was getting annoyed. Well, nothing wrong with dating a private teacher. But who can easily believe in love between an elite, mean girl and a modest, middle-classed boy? Somehow some people won’t believe it but it’s their story.
