Come Home Now

Come Home Now

I am far from home

I miss the familiar surroundings

My town is not mine anymore

Marriages, babies and new places to live

My friends have moved on

There is no place in their new lives for me

At least that’s how it seems.

Saturday was supposed to be our catch up time

I waited for the call

I needed directions so we could have this time

Two minutes and twenty-two seconds

Directions given in that time

My girls would home soon

We could catch up then

I turned off the car to wait

Time ticked by slowly

Nothing interesting where they live now

Winter still clings to this place

The dogs have become bored and curled up against the cold

This new place isn’t the home the old one was

The door is locked, I can’t get in

The door was never locked before

An hour passes, my patience is wearing thin

That same car has passed four times now

It’s cold sitting alone in my car

Another fifteen minutes and I start the car

Screw this; I must not be important anymore

A cold hour and fifteen minutes gone

So much for being home soon

They could come home now

I am gone
