Refrigerator Photos

They are there each time I open the refrigerator door,

Frozen faces of friends, family and celebrities.

These single moments…

A toothy grin through the applesauce smeared on his face

They did not really mean anything at the time…

A hug captured her last Christmas with us

Now they mean the world.

I forget about these refrigerator photos

They are just pieces of paper

That is until I’m faced with them.

Grabbing a Pepsi can and closing the door

My eyes meet those some year old expressions

Echoes of days past…

My how these people have changed;

Eight years of a closer than close friendship

I don’t talk to him anymore,

4th grade girls giggling over their BFF bracelets

She is married with two kids,

Blue eyes, blonde curls wearing an ‘I love pickles’ t-shirt

That baby is now in middle school,

Of the five family members in the photo I only know myself.

Frozen faces

Locked moments

Torn and crumpled edges

Lost people

These refrigerator photos…
