Sonnet - Moon

Go stand upon that orb which pales the sky.

Reverse the gaze of star-struck loving eyes.

It is your home that casts a spectral light

On bony rocks in barren rings around you.

It is your home that glimmers in the night

With promise – that you know to be untrue.

It is your home that you can never touch.

And so you turn to search your heart to clutch

One white-hot diamond memory of a kiss –

A whiff of musk, a glimpse of golden skin.

Everything you’ll never cease to miss

Is nothing but a piercing pain within.

Now, love, you know the curse behind my eyes

As I see you and her go laughing by.
