There was a loud crash, a shocking jolt.

We stood there in the rain, the gaping hole in the ceiling allowing all but bucketfulls of water to fall upon our heads.

It was an impossible thing, that he should be standing here, but he was, and my heart lept up into my throat and my blood sang whitehot through my veins.

The look on his face as the police came rushing in made me realize I was never going to see him again.
