A/N: An extremely short piece, more really my musing, which was written a while ago whilst I was supposed to be doing poetry with a few other pupils in my class. Like I've already said, it's really short, but I didn't really see how i could add anymore without ruining it... please read and review!

The Twilight Hour

The silence is deafening. The sheer nothingness of it all fills what soul I have left with sorrow. I walk, yet the footsteps that I hear are mere echoes from the far reaches of my memories, repeating over and over again like a broken record. Shadows loom, distorted in the strange, eternal twilight, the frozen hour.

The time of the lost souls.

Above me shines the full moon, gazing down at the earth below in all her cold majesty, her ethereal light illuminating my empty memories from years ago. But now I am back.

The ground is slick, wet with the blood of the fallen. The victims of this pointless battle fought for reasons of which neither side knew, and yet because of it they were killed. Their bloated corpses litter the rain-dampened grounds, their remains rotting with the hopes and dreams of human kind.

I’ve seen this all before; to me it is nothing new. I am unaware of how long I have lingered, watching mankind destroy themselves. Watching, but not helping. I can’t. I am a mere spirit, a memory imprinted on this land, frozen in time, forever observing, but never intervening. Unable to do anything as my heart weeps for those whose lives ended in lost hope and bitterness.

The war they fight never ceases and, as I’ve realised through the endless chaos that they create, nothing ever changes. It never will, not until they destroy the world.

I doubt that will take long.
