the wind’s chill whispering around me as i as i tuck my knees close to my chest,
stare at the air.
the atmosphere swells and thins with my heartbeat,
and i can see it stop as my breath-steam hitches, as you sit next to me.
hey, you say,
and your eyes shattered all the walls i was trying to build up
against you.
i’m sorry, i want to say, but my voice fails me and the loneliness tightens around my larynx.
hey, i reply, my crooked smile, the flesh of my bare arms alight
with goosebumps. your forearm brushing mine intensifies the shivering.
and we sit there, a pocket of warmth in the cold night. and dream.
my dreams always include you.
