A Phone Call

(A man is on stage, sitting at his desk in his house. He is working diligently until the phone next to him rings and he answers it.)

Andrew: Hello?

(Andrew smiles after a pause.)

Hey! How are you?

(Pause.)

Well, I have work to do, but otherwise, I'm good. Oh, hey, how did the interview go today?

(Pause.)

That's great! So, are you coming home soon?

(Pause.)

Oh, that's right...you have to go shopping. I forgot how little food we have in the house.

(Pause.)

I am not a workaholic. (Andrew smiles as he says this.)

(Pause.)

I'm not! I just...have a lot of work to do. Speaking of which, I have a lot to get done today. If you want to talk to me tonight, you'd better let me do it now.

(Pause.)

Of course I wouldn't chose work over you! Why do you think I want to get it all done before you come home?

(Pause.)

No, it's okay. You don't have to apologize. But I really need to get this done, so I have to go now.

(Pause.)

I love you too. Goodbye, Richard.

(Andrew hangs up the phone before going back to working diligently.)
