“Hey Mom

“Hey Mom! Dad! Wake up, we’re gonna be late for school!” The former silence was shattered by the sounds of Thomas waking up all of those currently in the vicinity. Shortly, his twin brother, Roberto, his father Delvin, and his mother, Heidi, joined him, bleary-eyed, in the kitchen.

“Good morning to you too!” Yawned his father, as he stumbled about, obviously trying to make coffee, though he wasn’t being very successful so far.

“Where’s Jackie and Seth?” Tom asked, “Shouldn’t they be up by now too?”

“Nah. Mom told them to go back to bed; they don’t have to be at school for another hour and a half. Besides, they’re getting a ride.” Smirked Rob, slightly resentful that he’d volunteered himself to walk to school.

“Well we’d better get a move on if we’re gonna get there on time.” So saying, he grabbed some doughnuts, said good-bye to their parents, and walked out. Following suit, Tom ran to his room, grabbed his backpack and pendant and ran to catch up. Outside it was rather warm, and as Tom ran to catch up, he realized that it shouldn’t be that warm in September. As he caught up, he saw that his brother’s pendent, which was brown, was glowing slightly. Looking down, he saw own one, which was a light red, was doing the same.

“Hey Rob, check out the pendants.”

“Yeah, I know, it’s been like that since this morning. Yours has been too, you just didn’t notice it.”

“That’s weird, I should’ve noticed it when I went to get it from our room.”

They walked on toward school, thinking about the pendants, and they shortly came up to the school. The school itself was rather large for any school, but added to the grounds, it was gigantic. A stone arch at the entrance stated that you were about to enter King’s Court High School. As the twins walked along the cobbled-stone walkway, they noticed the hedges were all trimmed to look like opposing chess pieces. When they got to the entrance hall, they were only slightly surprised to discover that the doors were carved to resemble playing cards; The kings of course. The building itself was cut stone, and the twins realized it wasn’t stone found anywhere near there.

Sitting down, Rob remarked, “I wonder where they got the rocks to build this place…”

“Dunno, Not around here though.”

Shortly they were joined by other students, one with short red hair, and rather small ears. Another showed up, who shorter brown hair, and a lot of freckles.. soon, a short black-haired girl interrupted them from their thoughts.

“Excuse me, but why are you waiting out here?”

“Dunno. The door’s locked tight.” Explained Rob, looking up at her.

“Oh, maybe they’re having a late conference or something..” she suggested, sitting down next to Tom on the stairs.

“Maybe. They’ll let us in when they’re ready I guess.”

The three watched the other students milling about the courtyard, the number steadily increasing. Suddenly they all felt a chill go their spines, and sitting up rather quickly, they all turned around, and saw that the doors had opened, and standing in the doorway was an older gentleman, whom they presumed was the headmaster.

“Attention Please!” The old man said this as if he were talking one on one with them all, but somehow, everyone heard him. They stopped chatting and crowded around the foot of the stairs. “Please step forward, and go into the hall when I call your name.”

“Athens, Harold” This was the short-haired boy, who disappeared inside. The process continued in this way for a while, only once being interrupted by a flock of what looked like owls flying overhead. This raised some eyebrows, but otherwise all was normal. Rather quickly, ‘Zaire, James’ was sent inside. Rob, Tom, and the Black-haired girl were left outside, with another girl that they hadn’t noticed before, with long red hair.

“You four follow me please.” Said a new voice, and before they could see who it was talking, they were gone inside again. Rushing inside they came up to a younger teacher. Tall, with dimples and short, brown hair, she could have been mistaken for a student. “You four must be.. let’s see..” she started ruffling through a few papers. “Ah, yes, here we are. Rhiannon Allard.”

“Yes?” This was the red-haired girl.

“Please wait for me in there.” Asked the teacher, indicating a side-room across the hall. Doing so, the twins saw a faint blue glow before she disappeared in.

“Holly Einswick?” This was the black-haired girl, who also had a glow somewhere near her neck, except hers was a faint white glow. She followed suit, and disappeared into the room.

“So you must be Robert and Thomas Wellington?” she asked, looking at the twins.

“Yep, that would be us..”

“Alright, well, go wait in there, and myself and the Headmaster should be there shortly.”

Walking into the room, Tom looked over his shoulder, and saw the teacher talking to a statue of a gargoyle, who’s stone presence sprang into animation, moving itself to the side to reveal a narrow passageway, which the teacher disappeared into. As soon as she disappeared, the statue jumped back to conceal it, and remained motionless. When he noticed the room, he saw that in room, opposite the door, was a large tapestry of a long forgotten battle. In its center was a majestic looking king, clothed in rich purples and gold’s, standing under it was the old man.

“Welcome. You four have been chosen to attend Lunaris School of the Arcane Majicks. You will be sent there directly, and as your parents have been already been informed, they have made the appropriate arrangements for luggage. If you’ll all follow me, then we’ll commence with the departure.” In saying so, he swept out of the room, with everyone scrambling after him.
