thin lavender’s sway
Marseille, France
3 August 2009

how could 1 stalk of lavender
so fill my days with joy ?

dark purple made from yellow rays
perturbs serenity

liquorice deep shiraz green wine
intoxicating brew

more heady than siren’s sweet song
or alcoholic brew

distillate pressed from fuzzy stalks
soothes even cynic heart

lest I forget to sip it slow
and walk a drunkard’s walk

or foolishly believe false hopes
red heart conspires to tell

when lavender fills waking dreams
and perfumes all sleep’s folds

there’s time enough for violet’s play
there’s time enough for love.
