Just Five Days

95 percent of Americans have premarital sex

a statistic I happily would proclaim when asked

taking my happy place in that unwinding line

knowing that were I to have said this three years before

everyone would have stared and snickered

but I was confident because my partner

was the nebula who few there knew and nobody would mock

Now I have fallen out of this line

though I still must stand as an accused sinner

watching my fellow teammates have their fun

while I still champion their cause but do so

bitterly, selfishly desiring my own continued enjoyment

over that of others
