Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see
That I want and I'm needing everything that we should be
I'll be she's beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she's got everything that I have to live without
Andrew smiled as he walked past Korin on his way to class and the black haired girl grinned back at him. As they passed each other he whispered loud enough for her to hear. “Kelly and I are dating now. I can’t wait to tell you the details.”
Korin nodded, the smile still on her face and she waved before heading into her own class. She felt a warm, sickening jealousy rise in her stomach and when she sat down in her desk let her smile fall. He had no clue.
Kelly walked by to sit across the room, long blonde hair flowing softly, haloing her in beauty. Korin felt the jealousy tighten around her heart. Kelly was nothing short of gorgeous and always got what she wanted.
Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it's so damn funny
That I can't even see anyone when he's with me
He says he's so in love, he's finally got it right,
I wonder if he knows he's all I think about at night
After class Korin and Andrew met up for lunch. He grinned and she felt happy to see him. It was as if all was right with the world and she had fun when she was with him. “…And Kyle laughed so hard that a spaghetti noodle came out of his nose!” Korin laughed at his stories.
Suddenly Andrew’s face turned serious. “You know...I’ve always loved Kelly and I’m so glad I finally have someone that loves me back too.” Korin felt her smile slip but slapped it back on. “I’m glad for you.” She grinned, knowing he never would love her as more than a friend.
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
When Korin got home she sat on her bed and grabbed her acoustic guitar. She sat cross-legged, back against the wall, and strummed while looking out the window. The stars twinkled at her, as if to say ‘don’t give up hope’.
She held her head down and softly let the tears come before glancing at the framed picture on her bedside table. Andrew was giving Korin a noogie and Korin was grinning up at him while flinching. She picked up the picture and stared at it with a small, tearful, smile. The next time Korin looked up from Andrew’s 2D face sunlight was shining through the window and she sighed before getting ready for school yet again.
Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can't breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly,
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She'd better hold him tight, give him all her love
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky cause
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
When Korin passed Andrew in the hall, he had his arm around Kelly’s shoulders and he waved at her with his free hand. She grinned and waved back before walking off to her first class. “No time for conversation right now, sorry.” She called behind her when Andrew turned to give her a quizzical look.
Kelly had been looking up at Andrew with a blissful, happy face. Korin felt her heart clench in jealousy yet again. She avoided Andrew the rest of the day and when the final bell rang she stood up, face impassive, decision made.
So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
I'll put his picture down and maybe
Get some sleep tonight
Korin laid down on her bed and pulled her guitar onto her stomach. She didn’t play, or even strum it, but just closed her eyes and took a deep, shaky breath. She’d be happy with just friends, she told herself. That’s what she’d do because no matter what she wanted to be with him, even if it was just as his best friend. She wanted to be near him as much as possible.
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who's got enough for me to break my heart
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
He's the time taken up, but there's never enough
And he's all that I need to fall into…
The next day came and Korin smiled as brightly as she could while walking up to Andrew and Kelly. He didn’t need to know…
Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see.
