Sylver Rain
Sylver glanced down at his watch. She was ten minutes late. He kicked the gravelly wall hard, and flinched as the pain reverberated through his leg. Leaning back against the wall, he pulled his baseball cap further down, shielding his silvery grey eyes- his namesake- from the blinding glare of the sun. He roughly pulled the crumpled piece of paper out of his scuffed trouser pocket, and brought it up to his eyes.
“Harley Hale. So that’s one thing we’ve got in common- unusual names.” He laughed at his own joke, a throaty rumbling sound. “She said to be here at one. By the willow.” His eyes flickered upwards. The willow swayed in the breeze, the tips of its branches barely brushing past Sylver’s arm. “Well I’m here. And she’s late.”
Suddenly, kicking up dust, a girl raced towards him, swerving around the bend in the wall. One eyebrow cocked up on Sylver’s face and his mouth arched into an amused grin.
“Hi,” she said when she reached him. She was slightly out of breath from running, and had splashes of red on her cheekbones contrasting against the rest of her milky skin. “Are you Sylver? Sylver Rain, right?” He nodded, his eyes taking in every inch of her scrawny figure. Her round face looked out of place on her slim body, and like him, she had dark blonde hair. Her eyes were disparate, one slightly larger than the other and grey, whilst the other was a dark mossy green. She flashed a crooked smile at Sylver and he managed a pathetic grin back.
“You’re late,” he finally said. She nodded guiltily.
“I missed the bus and I had to run. Sorry.”
“It’s fine. You’re Harley, or am I wrong?” She nodded again.
“Yeah. My dad’s obsessed with Harley Davidson’s. He’s got like, three in California. What about you, Sylver? What’s that name got to do with anything?” She paused as he yanked his cap off. “Whoa. Silver eyes, huh?”
“Let’s just get to the point,” Sylver snapped. Harley brought both hands up in a gesture of defeat. “Why d’you call me? I don’t even know you.”
“I called you yesterday because…” She took a deep breath. “Sylver Rain, I think that you are my brother.”
