I curl my fingers around the cold metal handle
I twist and pull
Sunlight and fresh air touch my face
My legs, my whole body
Sending goose bumps up my arms.
I’m suddenly a part of this earth, grounded.
And my feet hit the rock walkway
I make my way to the pavement driveway
Hot black pavement, where my feet sting and burn
But I leave them there and enjoy the feeling,
It grounds me.
I move to the lush, green lawn, where my feet sink into the lush, green grass
I feel weightless
And so I lie in the grass and let the dew
Soak into my clothes
I’m a part of the earth again, grounded
And I’m alive.
