Tennis Court Promises
Chapter One
Emily
My alarm clock was blaring next to me as I groaned and rolled over slamming my hand down on the “off” button. The digital numbers glared at me through the dark.
Six o’clock.
I rolled back over to face the ceiling, my posters of various tennis players all grinned back at me, brandishing state of the art rackets that I can’t even in my wildest dreams even begin to afford.
I sighed, tumbling out of bed groggily and headed for the shower. Turning the water on I realized what day it was.
The last day of school.
I happily thought of this while I allowed the hot steamy water to run over my body. Today was to be the last day I would spend as an immature freshman most of the upperclassmen hated. Though I find myself to be far from immature, as was accustomed to my grade I was labeled as such.
I stepped out of the shower wrapping a towel around myself, carefully picking out my outfit. I want to look good today. To the guys I want to be remembered as cute and outgoing, to the girls I want to be remembered as fun and trendy. With these goals in mind, I attempt to stay true but giving up and picking out dark blue flare jeans, a simple grey v-neck t-shirt, and a maroon colored zip up. I surveyed myself in my mirror.
My light blonde hair curled softly, porcelain complexion zit free, and my dark blue eyes shown brightly with the excitement the day was sure to hold. I look like I normally do, I thought somewhat disappointed, but I’m content. I guess.
I skipped lightly down the stairs to see my mother, father and older brother sitting quietly at the dinning room table.
“Hello family.” I greeted happily.
“Good morning, dear.” My mother said taking a sip of coffee from her favorite “Star Wars” mug.
“Good morning, Emily.” My father said lazily tying his shoe laces. “You’re just catching me before I leave for work.” He got up from his seat at the table placing a quick peck on my cheek. He moved down the table to my mother, and then ruffled my brother’s hair. “Good-bye, see you all later.” he waved and left the house.
I took his place at the table, grabbing an apple from the middle of the table, biting into it.
“Excited for the last day of school, Cody?” I asked my seventeen year old brother, who was wildly attempting to smoothing his unruly curly blonde hair after my father’s attack on it.
“Yes.” He grumbled when he realized his hair was beyond repair.
“Are you gonna drive me to school today?” I asked, like every day. Now usually would be when my darling brother would say something nasty and how there’s no way in hell he’d take me and then my mother would gasp and leave the room.
But instead he shrugged his shoulders and simply replied. “Sure.” My mouth fell open revealing half eaten apple. My mother’s head snapped up from the medical report she was reading.
“Thanks Cody.” I said still shocked. He shrugged again.
“No problem.” He checked his watch. “Come on Ems, we’ve gotta beat it if were gonna get to school on time.”
I scrambled out of my chair grabbing my bag on the way out the door.
Five minutes later after a very quite car ride, we arrived at school. I hopped out of the car and walked up to my school. Everywhere I looked people were exchanging numbers, with remarks about how “they would need to hang out over the summer”, signing year books, or just plain talking.
I walked into my 1st block class only to be tackled at the door by one of my three best friends in the whole world.
