True Passion

When the sky rips open and the cloud grows dark

When the curtain is ravaged and the temple strips stark

When the nails burn fiercer than the fires of Hell

When the veiled women shriek and the crowds cease to swell

When the blood poured out for sin obscures the face

When the flesh is exalted for the whole human race

When the soaked sponge of wine kisses the lips

When the scars refuse to heal from the crack of the whips

When mercy is begged from another crux pole

When the sacrifice promises to save that soul

When the soldiers stop taunting and openly stare

When the holder of the tunic begins to care

When the moment is final and all has been done

When the host is given up from Jesú, God’s Son
