Deadly Silence

I inhale with life

So precious, so raw, so beautiful

The Spirit of God

Can I really close my eyes?

Relinquish it all?

The pills lie in my palm.

They stare up at me, foreboding and yet comforting

My fate is truly my own

But do I want to choose?

I sit and sit

Mind in turmoil

Life or Death?

No sound pervades my senses, no touch caresses my cheek

Only the cold ovals are real now.

A torrent of drops augments the numb finality

The limb shakes in its uncertainty

Yet no cry is released

No blood is shed

The shell of human weakness convulses

Too much to bear

And yet…

The sun is not gone

Today I will breathe.
