Curse of the Wood
Haven’t you ever seen the darkness?
Haven’t you ever gazed at the whip?
Haven’t you ever desired a woman?
Haven’t you ever struggled to live?
Those who do not fall
Those who walk unaided
Ensnared in the mundane
Oblivious to their minds
No fathoming do they make
Of the bridge which cleaves the masses
Gifts many with naivety
Burdens few with reality
The connection to the truth
So desperately kept
For those without, beyond comprehension.
Haven’t you ever frozen inside?
Haven’t you ever twitched in fierce pain?
Haven’t you ever tainted your own flesh?
Haven’t you ever felt the need to run?
The other side assimilates; it’s all they can do
But never fully accepted, never understood
Even the blessed can’t ignore everything
The mystique of the knowledge does not elude them
Danger pulses in the blood of the servant
He knows his master is the only one
Who can lift the branches from the joint of his neck
Who can halt the sacrifice with the Final Act
Who can save a soul from Hell’s clenched grip.
Haven’t you ever tasted salt and sin?
Haven’t you ever begged for breath?
Haven’t you ever fought for your own heart?
Haven’t you ever killed yourself?
Without obedience, sadism will win.
That is the truth most never greet.
