Separated

Air hitches in the chest

Knees bend against their will

Back curves atop the earth

Dress saturates with dirt

Hair tumbles from its pins

Stomach churns and writhes and quakes

Arms grip tight as if for life

Hands shake but hold steadfast

Eyes close out the deadened world

Tears refuse to streak on down

Cheeks vow to solely frown

Glasses shatter unprovoked

Head pounds against the stone

Cry never leaves the throat

Skin hues navy with the chill

Lips cling to the foreign past

Heart maintains the will to beat.
