Chapter 3: The Fall

Thank you for reading and reviewing! I’m glad everyone seems to like it so far! I don’t plan on this story being very long…it’s just supposed to be the highlights and the main events of the school year. But I’ll try to not leave anything out!

Remember everything I write in this story is true…the name of the school has been changed but all the events are completely true. I wanted to share with everyone the story of our class because I think we were truly unique and had something special that isn’t very common in most classes. Thanks so much for reading!!

Chapter 3: The Fall

The fall of our senior year was the most enjoyable. It was before everything bad happened. Back when things were normal and everyone was happy and actually enjoyed going to school everyday. I wish this time would have lasted longer…

First was the Fall Festival. It was our first football game and we were pumped. Each grade level had to come up with a banner to support your class. The banners were huge pieces of plywood that people drew on, painted, colored, or even cut and altered.

Even though we did not win the contest, we were still convinced that our banner was indeed the best. This was the twenty-fifth anniversary of our school and we were the twenty-fifth anniversary graduating class. It was fitting that we had such an honor since our class was often considered unique and unusually close by other adults and teachers. We decided to celebrate that fact by painting on our board: “Twenty Five Years and They Finally Got It Right!” We painted those words in our school’s colors and had our mascot’s head stenciled and painted on in the center wearing a graduation cap.

As for the classes themselves, it was a blast. The teachers we had we had all either had before in our years at the school or were new and enjoyable. They all seemed to take a pretty strong liking to our class and we bonded with them.

The dramas of the year before had been finally put to rest and we were more than ready to have a great last-year of high school.

The Pep rallies were so much fun. The guys even dressed up like cheerleaders once and came out in skirts!! I never knew if they got in trouble for that or not, but they came up with their own routine and did it to girly music. It was as disturbing as it was hilarious.

We did not have senior skip days like public schools did, but we did have senior service days. The most memorable and fun service day was when we had to clean out these old trailers that used to belong to druggies. I know it sounds horrible, but we were always good about making the best of situations.

We cleaned and painted all morning long. My friend coated her hand in white paint and slapped one of our guy friend’s on the butt and left a permanent hand print!

It began to rain later in the morning when our teachers called out to us to head back to the buses. As it turned out, the buses were too big to fit through the narrow streets of the run-down neighborhood, so we had to walk for about half a mile to get back to them.

Now that should not be such a big deal, except for the fact that the rain literally began to pour from the sky at that very moment. It felt like someone tipped over a gigantic bucket full of water on us. We had to run through the rain to get back to the row of buses outside the neighborhood. By the time we climbed back on, we were all drenched.

The teachers then took us to this gym that our English teacher owns. It was mainly used for gymnastics and had foam pits, wall to wall trampolines, and all kinds of things to play with.

Needless to say, we all turned into a bunch of third graders right then and there. We began jumping into the foam pits and leaping off the trampolines doing all sorts of crazy, life-threatening stunts. Some people in the foam pits tried to aim for their friends below them as they leapt in.

We were still soaking wet and the gym was freezing cold. It bothered us for a little while, but we grew used to the temperature and stopped thinking about it…that is until the next day. Nearly half our class came down with a cold and poor Drew still gets bad coughing spells once in a while from catching bronchitis all those months ago.

The fall continued and moved into winter. Our spirits were high and we could think of nothing that could possible get us down…until second semester began…
